TN: 1990 Noël Verset Cornas (France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas)

1990 Noël Verset Cornas - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas (1/29/2019)
A bottle generously brought by a local wine shop owner, acquired on release, so perfect provenance. Has what I describe as the typical Verset slight pickle jar stem nose, with lovely medium cherry fruit on the palate, a fabulous streak of light fall spices, elegant and airy but with great flavor and complexity, nice soft acidity, totally resolved and mature but still fresh, not at all tired. One of the best Syrah wines I’ve had, ever. (96 pts.)

Phenomenal. Thanks for the note.

dis wine. is very good.

I was there. One of the best wines I’ve ever had. Thank you RL!

This is one of the best Rhône wines I have tasted. The 91 was its equal but with more spice.

Thanks–I was going to ask about how it compared to the 91, which is a rival for the best syrah based wine I’ve ever had.

wow. just wow. one day I’ll get my Verset…

I was there as well. Yes, thanks very much RL.

It was the syrah expression of an aged burg. Awesome.

Also, I want to eat Pickles with Alan sometime!

I have only been near one bottle of this wine in my life, and it was horribly corked. Bummer.
Sounds great, Alan. Thanks for the note.

Had one of these a long time ago and thought it good, but not spectacular. Nothing to kill for.
