Who is the BerserkerDay 10 MVP?? Come and see!

#1 Post by Todd F r e n c h » January 28th, 2019, 12:09 pm

Last year, John Simpson took the title for the first annual BerserkerDay MVP, buying more than anybody else on the day (at least that we KNOW of). This year the competition was much more fierce, but the Champion knows how to play in the big leagues, so it was a close match.

What I've counted up so far for finalists...

Sdfruman - 102 bottles
Peter Shurman - 112 bottles
John Simpson - 124 bottles

And, as of now, until we hear otherwise, it appears that Rich K0rz€nk0 is stealing the trophy from John with a whopping 151 bottles!

Please let me know if my numbers match your buying, and those who can play in the 'big leagues' like the rest of these all-stars, show us your numbers!!!!

Todd - I think I am at 150 regular BD purchases, plus a mag and 2 other bottles from auctions

I will double-check and post

According to my math I got to 114:

Biggio Hamina: 30
Tercero: 24
Lagier Meridith: 12
Goodfellow: 48

Plus the auction for a stay at Nola’s wine compound. [berserker.gif]

There should be a subcategory for highest ratio of bottles actually purchased to bottles one had planned to purchase.
Since my ratio is infinity, I declare myself the sub-champion.

Wow, I do bow to that. I picked up a 12 of Kutch outside Berserker Day and that's still more. No brainer on the title, well deserved, and its comforting to know someone went that much further over the edge of sanity, even if bourbon induced.

Well done! I don't even know how you all found the time for that. I did about a third the damage, and it required stealing off to my office every hour, while ignoring my kids, and my wife's evil eye as I set fire to this month's mortgage money.

Thank you Todd, and congrats to you John, for your Lifetime Achievement award...... [cheers.gif]

Amongst my purchases were 7 wineries that are new to me: Franny Beck, Biggio Hamina, Boheme, Keller Estate, Goodfellow, 33 Cellars and Betwixt.

I am really looking forward to trying them, and I also restocked on some others that I have really enjoyed.

Virage was my biggest buy at 24 bottles, 18 rose and 6 of her magnificent 2007 red blend. Great stuff if you haven't tried either. Her roses can age, but I have trouble keeping my hands off of them.

Todd - please check your PMs

I hate to admit this, but after Sunday's blitz, I added a six pack of Bougetz SBs last night, which is also a new winery to me.

Why yes, yes they did!

I was trying to buy a case of Tercero rose, and my card was declined about a dozen times.

The bank called me, and we sorted it out, and I was able to complete the transaction.

Then came many, many more!

Got dinged twice. First was on 10th hit of Preview day (Theopolis I think), bounced like a golf ball. Then my first on Sunday (Iota) was another return to sender, which required a call and an accountant.

We usually have to contact a decent number of Berserkers Day purchasers to ask them to “reach out” to their bank to ok a sale.

Franny Beck 18 bottles (PN and Rose)
Signal Ridge/Princess & Peasant 18 bottles (mixed case and red, white and sparkling)
Biggio Hamina 12 bottles (PN and Rose)
Paetra 18 bottles (Riesling)
Boheme 12 bottles plus a mag (Pinot and Zin, the mag was in the auction (does that count as 2?? [snort.gif] ))
Keller Estates 6 bottles (Mystery pack)
Vincent 12 bottles (whites and PN)
Goodfellow 12 bottles (chard and BC Pinot)
Veleta 12 bottles (Vijiriega)
33 Cellars 6 bottles (chard and PN)
Betwixt 2 bottles (white Rhone - got in the auction)
Tercero 12 bottles (Rose)

That amounts to 164 + a mag

Other purchases

6 pack of Veleta EVOO (and a nice chat with Nola)
Grassl 6 pack of Libere stems (auction)
Grassl 6 pack of Mineralite stems (auction)
Gabriel Glas Alpha decanter (looks really cool, also in the auction)

Notes to self:

Lay off the bourbon on BD!!!!!!!

Don't try to bid up the auctions!!!!

champagne.gif

I also won another sixer of Signal Ridge by answering a trivia question
I think you're short changing yourself by a case. It looks like 176 plus a mag, to me. [worship.gif]
You're right Jim!

I won another 6 bottles from Signal Ridge that I didn't include in those totals, and have added another 6 pack from both Bougetz and DV8! [wow.gif]

I can't blame either of those on the bourbon!! [snort.gif] [cheers.gif]

I haven't spent a nickel in ten years of Berserker Days. Where's my prize?
Best,

Oh, I didn't know there was a ROTY award?! I humbly submit:

6 Tercero Mouvedre Rose
6 mixed case Briceland Vineyards reds
6 Franny Beck Pinots
6 mixed case Valeta reds
6 Princess and the Peasant Carignan (never heard of the varietal, bought solely on the recommendation of this group)
3 EMH Black Cat cabs
3 Arcadian Syrah
6 Loring Pinots
4 Virage Cab Franc blends (arriving today!)
3 Riverain cabs
12 Chester's Anvil (talk about QPR)

For a total of 61 bottles, 11 producers. [berserker.gif]

I also got 18 Grassl glasses and some Flannery steaks (plus 2 bottles of Signal Ridge bubbles...non berserker day).

I've learned so much from this forum, and loved BD10, even if my bank account does not. [head-bang.gif]

Mike,

That is an impressive rookie debut!

You will love the Virage, and hope you have at least one of Emily's 2007

You must try Arcadian's Pinot Noir, if you haven't

Larry's Tercero roses will make you happy, as will SR's bubbles and the P&P

I own a Chester's Anvil T shirt (Get hammered on Chester's Anvil!) and that was one great deal - I got a case as well

Can't wait to test drive the Grassl stems!

Well, it was a glorious five days while it lasted. Congrats Lee! Luckily for me, as a consolation prize my BD10 wines have started rolling in. I am currently crying into a lovely Arcadian Syrah...

Thanks, Mike! You win in that regard as mine haven't made it to the east coast yet, but they should start coming in soon. Did you go with the 03, 04, or 06 Arcadian to start things off?
