How much Wine do we drink a year?

We drink, party or gift about 360 bottles a year. Gifts are “hostess” gifts when we go to a dinner party. What do others go through?

We seldom go out for dinner without taking a bottle (well, except Mexican food)

Except for stickies, my SO doesn’t enjoy wine. I drink about a bottle and half a week. Looking back on notes and receipts, I opened 88 last year.

80-90 bottles a year from my own cellar for dinners with my SO, parties at my home, or family get togethers. I don’t consistently log wine purchased at restaurants or tasted at a friend’s home. For health reasons, I try not to open more than one bottle a week, so the rest comes from sharing with others.

My wife an I drink about 2 bottles per week home together. About 100 total.

We probably go through another 100 entertaining.

About 36 for Thanksgiving week at the in-laws.

Probably 24-36 for when we go to people’s houses.

Maybe 24 as gifts.

Call it 300 per year?

I probably pour down my own gullet about 75 bottles worth per year, 56 liters.

Average, say 15% ABV for wine…8 liters of alcohol.

That’s about 264 ounces of alcohol per year, averages to .75 ounces per day of ethanol…which is, what, about a drink and half? Sounds high to me.

Really? Seems extremely moderate!

We probably open 150-200/year.

300-320 bottles/yr from our cellar

A follow on comment… we seldom drink beer or hard drinks. Wine is pretty much it for alcohol…

250-300 including restaurant purchases.

CT averages over the last 13 years:

Drink 219/year
Gift 25/year
Contribute to a tasting 9/year
Sell 64/year (this number is going up a lot)

I am probably in the same ballpark for personal consumption. Look at your numbers this way: you average a single “standard” 5 ounce glass of wine per day. By some studies, we would be considered exemplary in our wine consumption. Yeah, exemplary!

The way I always respond to questions like this is always to paraphrase Phil Gramm’s views on shotguns - I drink more than I need, but not as many as I want.

Not sure how much wine “we drink”. Typically purchase and consume (me, wife, friends, party guests): 280 - 320 bottles year. We probably serve a little more wine than we drink from others, but it’s close.

~100-125 bottles a year. Just a WAG

I go through a lot during the summer out at the beach. Probably 10-15 cases. Slower during the rest of the year, maybe 3ish bottles a week regularly then dinner parties and holidays churn some cases. I have no idea what that adds up to. Couple hundred bottles?

~180-200/year in recent years (which is “consumed” per cellartracker figures - so a few are gifts). A decent amount of that is bringing wine to others’ dinners, and it doesn’t include most restaurant purchases.

The problem is that I buy well more than that each year . . .

My wife and I have a half bottle most every night for dinner. Those plus some gifted and some taken to our wine club tastings and we’re right at 200, give or take a handful.

About 350 bottles a year from our own cellar, including parties and wine dinners. We don’t buy off restaurant lists all that often except when we’re traveling. There are some cocktails and scotch as well, and my husband drinks beer occasionally though I do not.

I personally drink about 250 bottles a year. This includes in the total:
Opened and consumed at home (often over several days; often as single glasses of two or more different wines)
Consumed at professional tastings, after the professional part is over
At homes of friends and associates (sometimes wines I bring, sometimes wines they provide)
At restaurants
Sally now probably drinks less than 50 bottles a year.
We open at home for other people about 50 - 75 bottles a year. This number would increase if more people, Berserkers included, came to Maine.
We gift at least 150 bottles a year.
I donate about 150 bottles a year. This is separate from wine donations made by my business, which is a much larger number.

142 consumed from the cellar in 2018, add in a few from restaurant purchases, parties elsewhere and group dinners, probably about 160.
