Myriad Dr Crane Cabernet + Semillon Release - Jan 15th

#1 Post by Frank Z » January 9th, 2019, 9:28 am

Got the "Save The Date" email this morning, and am super excited! First offer of the year that I'm going to splurge on! Who else is buying?

2017 Myriad Cellars Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Cabernet Sauvignon $125
2017 Myriad Cellars Beckstoffer Dr. Crane 'Elysian' Cabernet Sauvignon $165
2018 Myriad Cellars McGah Vineyard Semillon $28
2018 Myriad Cellars 'Old Vine' Tofanelli Vineyard Semillon $28

We will open the release on January 15th at 9am to Tier One members on a first-come, first-served basis. On January 22nd, any remaining wines will then open to the entire mailing list.

Also, I havent had any of their Semillons before. Thinking about grabbing a few this time as the winemaker notes on the website sound delicious!

ALL IN AS ALWAYS!!!

...Anyone have rumor control over when Crane grapes were picked in relation to the fires (before Oct 8)? There seems to be a quiet hysteria about 2017 with heat spike and smoke taint concerns, with many people writing off the vintage entirely... which I think is a broad-brush reaction (and a mistake) brought about by a lack of understanding about what diligent winemakers have done to navigate through those challenges (like in any vintage). Would be nice to be able to quell those concerns with specific data. Crane is 10 days before Elysian.

Have tasted these from barrel on two separate occasions-they are 100% wonderful, as per usual. All the fruit was already in, and I'm 99% sure the wines were in barrel already at the time of the fires.

Hi All - I can help with Rumor control... 2017 Myriad Dr Crane Cabernet and 2017 Myriad Dr Crane Elysian Cabernet were picked and in the winery before the fires. Myriad Cellars and Quivet Cellars would never release a wine with smoke taint issues or actually any quality issues in general. We are very fortunate to have early ripening vineyard sites. The 2017 wines are stunning across the board and we are very excited to release them to you. As always, thank you for all your support and if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Mike and Leah Smith - Myriad/ Quivet Cellars.

A quality producer, and quality people (Mike and Leah). Though I am far from Napa, I've heard that the 2017 vintage, if picked before the fires, will be very good. I'll be in for a few Dr. Crane's (as well as whatever else Quivet and Myriad will have for this next vintage), and as far the whites go, they are quite nice as well!

I'm in for a total of 18 bottles.
Was going to get a mag of Dr. Crane, but the $30 shipping fee made it a no go for me.

The one thing that sorta bothers me about having all these different release points is that they charge shipping for each shipment, but ship them all together in the fall. I think I paid $100 total to ship essentially a case or a little less this last fall, which is a bit expensive, I think.

Is pickup an option at all, or must the wines be shipped? I ask because I'm always in Napa during the fall months (usually 2-3 trips from September to December)

Email Leah @ info@myriadcellars.com and ask. They have limited space at Envy, a palate or two in sq/ftage, to store customer wine.

I’m a Myriad customer but for some reason I haven’t purchased the Elysian yet. Please excuse the dumb question, but does the wine come in a wood box? It doesn’t have any bearing on whether I purchase obviously but I’m just curious. Thanks.

Doesn’t come in a special packaging. I’m glad it doesn’t because it would certainly cost more.

agreed. it’s the one negative for myriad/quivet. i’ve stopped buying other wineries for this, it’s just shitty customer service.

I don't think that they will do it for the two different labels (e.g. won't ship quivet w/myriad), but I would second Brian and suggest to ask Leah about consolidating the shipment costs of myriad wines from the 3 releases. They all come as a single shipment in the fall anyway. I wonder if there is a simple way for them to calculate shipping after the August Napa/SVD cab release and not charge buyers until the end?

Either way, these are good people with great and personal customer service (Leah has gone out of her way to help me multiple times before) and not looking to nickle and dime you on shipping.

Agree with the above shipping sentiments. It was my one issue last year with the staggered Myriad releases. Hopefully it can be fixed in the future.

For those with much experience with the Dr Crane as well as the Elysian offering, does the non-Elysian allow for earlier drinking? I’ve had the fortune of meeting Mike and tasting with him and really enjoy his Napa Valley cab and George’s III Cab, but I’ve never purchased his Crane offerings. I’ll likely bite on 2-3 bottles, but will only bite on the non-Elysian if it provides a more accessible drinking window early so that I can let my Elysian bottles sleep.

Thanks in advance.

The semillons are excellent.
While I'm sure it's amazing, and chances are you can flip Dr. Crane Vineyard Elysian Cab for substantially more than the release price--(so the market says this is a great deal), 165 bones is a luxury item for me. It's pretty rare that I have an occasion to open something like that without feeling guilty. I'm not in it to flip wine though so I just ordered one bottle of that, which hopefully I can share with someone who loves wine and we are having a momentous occasion in 7 to 10 years. That Semillon is such a steal, that I'm confident the five bottles to complete the half case aren't going to be enough.

I did just have a momentous occasion with this order though! I just passed the 1000 bottles threshold of "in my cellar" on Cellartracker. 276 bottles are pending delivery though; pray for Mojo...

Didn't grab as many as I would have liked, but picked up a few. Hoping to figure something out for shipping by the end of the year, I would really like to consolidate everything.

ha please elaborate if you are going to misquote. i said leah wouldnt do for me what she did for others. it’s not really open to debate, it’s fact.
Hi Steve, Your post concerned me, as I'm really not the person who just says "no"...so I looked up our email exchange. In your email asked me to combine Myriad and Quivet - which I cannot do, These are two different wine companies. I then offered to " add to an existing order if you let me know what you are wanting I could have them ship together" ?? So i am unclear on where I have declined to help you. I have forwarded you the email exchange personally, if you have any questions or concerns, please never hesitate to reach out personally. We take customer service very seriously, and Im pretty good at working something out if its possible. As always we thank you for your support, and hope to clarify your concerns. I look forward to hearing from you
