TN: 2011 Weingut Ökonomierat Rebholz Spätburgunder trocken (Germany, Pfalz)

2011 Weingut Ökonomierat Rebholz Spätburgunder trocken - Germany, Pfalz (1/5/2019)

Rebholz is one of the top producers in Germany and have a great reputation with the highest rating for a winery from Gault Millau. This Pfalz producer makes about 10,000 case of wine per year of which about 20% is Pinot Noir. This is their introductory Pinot. I bought a few bottles at auction for $20 to try based on the 95 point score from Wine Enthusiast. The grapes for this wine are destemmed and given 4 weeks of skin contact. Aged for 2 years in new and used oak. Orange red color. Flinty with a mineral, spice and cherry notes. Very rustic. This was much better with food than on its own and improved during the evening. 91-92 points.
