TN: 2014 Château Calon-Ségur (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe)

Decanted 7 hrs. A tad bit of funk on the nose eased up about an 1hr in the decanter, otherwise the nose was elegant and providing all the necessary aromatics one requires ala Left Bank. I agree with the general assertion that is a more accessible Calon than years past, dark berry fruit is both vivid and playful, great freshness, gravel tones, the lot. Yet, this is still a Calon Segur, with big, brawny tannins that impose its will, medium acidity, and a slight leafy touch on the finish. Needs years. I love wines such as Calon that do work to make the process a tad easier for early satisfaction but at zero compromise to their inherent DNA. Well done. I hope to get some 16’s. (94 pts.)
