2009 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Lovely stuff, if a bit on the riper side. The nose was a lovely marriage of the riper, stone fruit and flower 2009 tones with typical Leflaive aromas of flint, chalk and smoky mineral notes. The palate was still very young and primary, with a solid chew of rich stone fruited notes, and an almost structural spine of stony minerality underneath. Lovely depth and grip to it, and a surprising amount of focus for a weigty vintage. It lacked the sheer laser-like cut and definition of vintages like 1996, 2002 and 2004, but it was very good for what it is. Yummy, and it should get better in the next few years. (93 pts.) -
2008 Vincent Dancer Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Good, but still needs time to fill up. The nose had a nice melange of white fruit, chalk and slatey minerality along with rounder, more buttery Meursault notes. The palate was still really tight though, with linear 2008 acidity and a real streak of minerality underlining crunchy flavours of green apples with a hint of nectarines at the side. Lovely cut and freshness, a good ripe depth too, but this needs a bit of time yet. (93 pts.) -
1991 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Dusty, dirty, a little tired, but still charming in its own way. The nose had a bit of funk on it, but beneath that, there were lovely aromas of red cherries, savoury earth, meat, herbs and a kiss of lifted spice and florals. Nice and very Gevrey. The palate was quite a bit weaker, but still quite pleasurable, with a light grip of fine, chewy tannins and fresh acidity adding a good spice to clear flavours of cherries, berries and spice, with a nice streak of mineral and meat trailing away into a decent finish where a chew of herb and a
of spice lingered nicely on the back palate. (92 pts.)

1996 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
A very masculine Amoureuses, but pleasurable for what it is. The nose was very attractive, with a salty, savoury overtone of earth, meat and fragrant spices alongside deeper notes of dark berries and plums, with savoury notes of earth, meat and orange peel - all juicy and structured. A powerful and compelling mouthfeel, but a world away from the slinky, lacy, flowery stereotype Amoureuses. It had a good depth, breadth and power to it, leading into a long, compelling finish with earth, fruit and spice, and just that hint of florals at the very end, all gripped with a chew of fine tannins. Lovely, if atypical stuff. (93 pts.)
