TN: 2012 Rhys Pinot Noir Swan Terrace

2012 Rhys Pinot Noir Swan Terrace - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (12/22/2018)
Fascinating wine that combines fruit, herbal and spice elements, with sneaky back end tannins. The aromatics are beguiling, but I am not as positive on the flavors, which lean more towards the green. It’s an incredibly interesting wine, but I am not sure I actually like it.

– decanted immediately before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over 2 to 3 hrs –

NOSE: warm, red fruits — veering just a touch to Santa Maria or RRV style; a bit spicy; pine needle; black tea.

BODY: medium-light bodied.

TASTE: sweet American oak type flavor, despite no American oak usage; earthy red/purple fruits; a touch spicy; medium acidity; no tannins; 12.6% alc. is not noticeable; relaxed/open; a bit watery – medium concentration of fruit – doesn’t feel like more age will bring improvement; hints of bitter florals and green banana. Both Ash and I have a gut impression score of 90 – 91 for this. Drink Now and over the near term.
