TN: 2016 Benoit Courault "Gilbourg" (France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Anjou)

2016 Benoit Courault Gilbourg - France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Anjou (12/13/2018)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 2 - 3 hours –
– 100% Chenin Blanc –

NOSE: expressive; strong pear, with supporting hints of hay, apple cider, and orange bitters.

BODY: medium-rich maize color; medium bodied.

TASTE: pear cider; a bit oxidative (don’t know if the producer intended this); high acidity; dry; a bit tangy — almost lambic-like; hints of watermelon Jolly Rancher, cardamom, and red apple; 13% alc. not noticeable. Complex, engaging, and moreish. Without knowing whether the oxidative nature of this bottle was intentional, I have to say I loved this; I hope the style was intentional, because I will be buying this again, and I hope for more of the same. Excellent!
