TN: 2013 Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon Cold Creek Vineyard

  • 2013 Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon Cold Creek Vineyard - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (12/4/2018)
Day 1: This is an exceptional bottle of this wine. Far superior to any others I have tasted. Graphite, cassis, spice box, gravel and mild oak. Nice floral notes on the palate and good acidity. This is the Cold Creeks I tasted back in the 90s. Wonderful wine and wish they all drank like this. 92 plus
Day 2: Wonderful again with mint, cassis, cigar, floral and earth. Medium plus finish and balanced. 92-93. (92 pts.)

Cold Creek is one of the really old vineyards for WA, planted in 1972, I believe. Produces wonderful Cab, Franc, Merlot, Chard and Riesling, very rare for a vineyard anywhere in the world.

Kris is this vineyard exclusive to Chateau Ste. Michelle?

Januik has a Cold Creek Chardonnay. Haven’t seen a cab though.

I have enjoyed the “Cold Creek” Merlot from Chateau Ste Michelle in the past. The vintage often mattered for me, but it’s been some time since I have tasted any reds from this Washington State producer.

Hi Brian,

I see it all over the place, even Safeway carries it. Some vintages can be a bit overbearing on the oak side, but once in a while they can really hit the mark.

Mike was winemaker at Ste. Michelle so he has an in for Cold Creek fruit, but its owned by Ste. Michelle.

Januik sells a Cold Creek Cab? I visit the winery all the time and have never seen it. I only see the Ste. Michelle Cold Creek Cab.

Ooops. my bad, I didn’t read Januik in your post. Clearly I picked the wrong week to quit sniffin glue.
