Best Wine Deals this year! 2018 Edition

#1 Post by John Glas » December 2nd, 2018, 2:55 pm

The other day I was going through Cellar Tracker notes and purchases and came across a boat load of deals namely the 2007 Prum collection at $7 a bottle (including Kabinett, Spatlese and Ausleses' of the legendary producer: Did a post on this a while back). This year I found some great closeouts at a local shop and these stood out:

2010 Ardal Tradicion Ribera del Duero Reserva Selección Especial (Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero) $10.99 (Paid $21.99 on WTSO).
2012 Bodegas Muga Rioja Reserva (Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja) $9
2014 Buena Vista Cabernet Sauvignon Chateau Buena Vista (USA, California, Napa Valley) $25
2016 Substance Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, Washington) $9 with the mail in rebate
2013 Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California, Napa Valley) $19
2012 Bethel Heights Pinot Noir Æolian Estate (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills) $23

And we have a winner!!!
2016 Tablas Creek Côtes de Tablas Blanc (USA, California, Central Coast $6

1998 Biondi Santi riserva $249.99
That vintage is under-rated, at the high end at least.

I always grab all the bottles as I know plenty of people that would want them however at $69 certainly a harder decision. Enjoy!

Hard to pass up wines like this as they become everyday drinkers for that price!

I'm sure E. Guigal top end stuff is good but I'm not interested in giving my money to winemakers who only seem to be concerned with making money. Same goes with Jadot etc. The only thing that turns me off from wine more than negociant is when it's a Veblen good. E. Guigal is both.

Welp....despite all that....$120 is a silly good price! Where the hell did you score that from??

I bought one recently (sons birth year)....and let's just say I, unfortunately, paid quite a bite more than $120!

I thought the Scott Paul La Paulee for < $14 was a great deal so I bought a case. It usually sells for double that. After have a bottle though it is a good wine but not nearly as it has been in the past when Kelley Fox was making the wines. Probably not the deal of the year that I was thinking.

Man, I love those scenarios where the price seems too good to be true, but the store confirms its correct.....and then you walk out trying to keep that silly grin off your face while hoping that you dont get tackled by security of something ;)

Great score - congrats!

The 2007 Prums at $7 years ago were obviously better but we have a few shops in Minneapolis that are great at getting deals on the wines when distribution changes hands. Many distributors want to unload the brand all at once.

2012 Pierre Damoy Chambertin (9) and Chapelle Chambertin (1) - $99 per

Haven't tried the Ente's yet, but the Damoy Chambertin is stunning.

Cases of 2015 Eyrie Original Vines Pinot Gris for 199. The vines have phylloxera and won't last as long as the wine will.

1986 Rieusssc 6L for $240 in OWC, direct closeout from distributor.

1945 Château Talbot 1.5L from same, they've had it since the early 70s. $500

Also lucky to get things at wholesale from ITB friends. Stupid pre-order discounts of 25 off wholesale for some Champs. Dangerous when that includes bubbs with the same name as your child.
