Friday night pizza TNs

  • 2011 Bonavita Faro - Italy, Sicily, Faro (11/23/2018)
I don’t know whether it’s the different microclimate (Faro versus Etna), but these wines seem more rustic and not as “light on their feet” as some of the Etna Rossos I’m familiar with.

That said, if you don’t allow a preconceived notion of what a Nerello Mascalese-based wine should taste like intrude upon your evaluation, this is a very satisfying wine.

A brooding nose, with red fruit more prominent, but black fruits still in the mix. Really coats the palate, again with that mix of red & black fruit.

I just tried a 2012 Ar Pe Pe Valtellina - both wines are pretty interesting on a Friday night with pizza, and very different in terms of how they entertain you. I think I have a slight preference for the Bonavita, but am enjoying both bottles.

Tart red fruit on the palate, good acidity, lighter-bodied. Not overly complex, but pretty enjoyable with pizza.
