TN: Reeve Riesling McFaddenVnyd '15...(short/boring)

In the mood for a white wine last night, so cracked this:

  1. Reeve Riesling McFaddenVnyd/MendoCnty (13%; 265 cs; www.ReeveWines.com) Noah&Kelly Dorrance/ReeveWines/Sonoma 2015: Pale gold color; lovely pineapple/mango/floral/R strong Mosel valve oil/gout de petrol/pungent very aromatic nose; quite tart/tangy strong floral/R/aromatic/mango/tropical fruit some Mosel valve oil/gout de petrol slightly off-dry (0.6%-0.8% r.s,?) balanced fairly rich/lush lovely flavor; very long/lingering strong mango/R/floral/peach blossom slight perfumed talc/earthy very perfumed finish; more like a good Wachau Smaargd R than German; Calif can make great R if they grow it in the right place; should go out another 8-10 yrs; lovely stuff. $28.00 (BWM)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Spotted this new label (for me, anyway) up at BoulderWineMerchant. About to pass it over, then noticed it came from McFaddenRanch…so knew I had to try it. Guinness McFadden, up in the PotterVlly, grows some of the consistently best R in all Calif. I’ve had some of Guinness’s wines w/ CaseyHartlip that I liked quite a bit. But, those Rieslings from MikeDashe are always some of the best in Calif. Clearly, he knows how to farm (organically) grapes and seeing McFaddenRanch on the label is a strong plus to me. Definitely, a cool-climate R.
Noah & Kelly also make Pinot & Sangiovese, but it appears these are club members/tasting room only offerings, by & large. I must visit their tasting room when I’m out there in a few weeks.
