TN: 2001 Château Léoville Poyferré (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien)

  • 2001 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (11/11/2018)
Decanted 3 hrs. Aromatically pure and classic Left Bank, with a palate that matches suit. This is clearly in a early window of maturity, with a lovely display of cassis that is both expressive yet refrained, back end notes of soil and the ol’ No.2 pencil harmonize so well together. Tannins are still present, but support nicely on the finish. Much love here. (94 pts.)

Nice. I really love 2001 Left Bank Bordeaux.

Indeed David, I’m hoping 14 turns out to be a similar vintage in terms of overall price (Leoville Poy Can be had for $65) and the charming character of the wines. Those that I have tasted seem to give hope this could well be the case.

Love to read “classic” in a Leo Poy note.
