TN: 2004 Fina Terrerazo, Vino de Pago, Spain

Election night vino #1.

TN: 2004 Fina Terrerazo, Vino de Pago, Spain. I found one note that suggests this vintage is old vine 70% Bobal, 20% Tempranillo, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, though it looks like more recent vintages have been 100% Bobal. Dark in color. Lot’s of black cherry on nose and - boom - in the mouth. This has a bit of that standard push-the-envelope-on-ripeness that I find in many Eric Solomon imports, though perhaps that is also the nature of Bobal itself. In any event, this iteration pushes but never quite breaks the envelope open. There is a lush and lovely mouth-feel. Too big and fruity for me to love unconditionally, but its a pleasure model at a fair tariff that has held up quite well in the cellar since release. No complaints here. $15. A very solid 86 points (I do not inflate grades, fyi).

I’ve not had that much experience with Bobal. Any thoughts?
