burgundy vintages

I have a chance to buy Burgundy from the same producer, both Clos Vougot, 2001 or 2004. Without knowing the producer any thoughts about which might be better. Thanks

2001

2001 for sure.

Mike, Glen and Juyuan are spot on, everyone is going to say 2001.

For a bit more detail; 2001 is a very good vintage which is drinking really well right now. 2004 is a poor vintage. One of the worst vintages in recent times. So this is truly a no brainer for you.

Producer and vintage matter the most in Burgundy. Given that this is the same producer, opt for the 2001 as others have stated. Do you have much experience with Burgundy? It’s a tough and expensive region to get to get to know if you don’t have a guide or a knowledgeable tasting group to help navigate.

No one is going to say 2004.

Clearly, 2001. You have to be lucky to get a good 2004

Who is the producer? Without knowing that, nobody can tell you whether or not to buy either.

Like everyone has said, 2001.

I thought all the smart ones will be salivating for the 2004.

Jokes apart 2001, no brainer.

2001 for sure
