2005 Karl Lawrence Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/26/2018)
Poured through a freshly punctured Pungo into a Riedel Bordeaux stem to give it some air. Right out of the gate the nose is vibrant with rich cherries and plums combined with a soft minerality. First taste 15 minutes in and the wine is shining brightly with a smooth deep classic To Kalon plushness. 45 minutes later it is silky smooth. This wine is a joy to drink. Not a “wow” wine but a true pleasure to savor and enjoy with any meat or hearty cheese. In my case that means chorizo, pate, blue cheese and truffle tremor. As someone who continues to drink aged Karl Lawrence, I am confident this will keep for years but there is little reason (or need) to wait for this wine to improve. It’s right in its wheelhouse now so why wait? (94 pts.)
