TN: 2013 Kreuzberg Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs

2013 Kreuzberg Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs - Germany, Ahr (10/13/2018)

Opened by a friend who bought this at the winery during our 2016 trip to the Ahr Valley. This wine is not available in the US although his base Pinot is sold here in very small amounts. Kreuzberg is a relatively new estate located in Dernau. The family started growing vines in 1953 and the winery was started in 1994. Kreuzberg has received Gault Millau’s highest ranking for wineries. Decanted 1 hour. Aged in 67% new oak. Deep red color. Spicy red fruit with light oak notes. Minerals and black fruit notes. Tannins are still firm since the last time I had this 2 years ago. Excellent Pinot. We drank this next to the 2013 Adeneuer Rosenthal Pinot GG and liked the Kreuzberg slightly better. 93 points.
