TN: 2014 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges

2014 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges (10/4/2018)
I wanted something nice, but not over the top, so grabbed this bottle. I had never tasted the village Nuits from Mugneret-Gibourg, so it was also a new experience. The first impression was all about fresh, red fruit. Tannins were present, but not aggressive. Oak signature was limited, and the finish continued to reflect the initial red fruit, with a light touch of spice. As a very young wine it did not show much in the way of earthy complexities, but it had plenty of depth to allow patience for development.

Overall it was a very good wine, but it was different compared to other M-G wines I have tried. I won’t say that it was “Californian.” I would rather say that when California Pinot Noir tries to be Burgundian, they seem to be trying to emulate this wine.

That’s a very precise way of putting it and is very clear to me, thanks for a very good note, David. I enjoy pretty much all the wines from this estate but have never had the villages NSG either. Their Chaignots is year-in and year-out a winner for me…and NSG is not my favourite commune/area.
