WTN: Hot Takes

Quick, unvarnished thoughts on recent wines I have not previously posted

2013 Leitz Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Spatlese – rich, young, proper balance for the long term, but great with spicy Thai (though not “Thai spicy”) curry, love these wines, but PITA to find them now with new importer

2014 Hirsch Vineyards Pinot Noir East Ridge – excellent balance, fresh red fruit, a little soft, but fun to drink - pricing is rather aggressive for this

2012 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Bourgogne Les Bons Batons – crisp, bright, berry fruit, a little weak in the mid-palate, but overall quite pleasant, if unmemorable

2000 Kurt Darting Ungsteiner Herrenberg Scheurebe Auslese – the color of aged beerenauslese, and showing lots of aged botrytis character. Getting a little dry for a true dessert wine, but otherwise an appropriate after dinner tipple, for $16 on release can’t complain

2012 Le Piane Boca – floral, fruity, spicy and much too drinkable, though does it really offer more interest than a $35 Barbaresco (at $55)?

NV L. Aubry Fils Champagne Premier Cru Brut – continuing to work through a case of the June 2010 disgorgement, and it’s still delicious with no hurry to finish up – early maturity

2012 Ceritas Chardonnay Porter-Bass Vineyard – flowers, quince, rocks, very pure, but can’t I get the same experience from AOC Chablis for less?

2015 Wilde Farm Wines Pinot Noir Donnelly Creek Vineyard – still showing its youthful red berry fruit, structure from acid rather than tannin, good drinking now

2014 Trimbach Riesling Reserve – apple, lemon zest, white peach, very dry, shows a bit of petrol, if this is 2014 for Trimbach I want the CFE!
