TN: 2015 Dönnhoff - Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese (Germany, Nahe)

2015 Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (7/30/2018)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over a few hours –
– AP #: … 15 16 –

NOSE: powdered donuts; powdery lime; quinine; hint of petrol; light frozen orange juice note emerged after 1.5 hours.

BODY: medium bodied; pale yellow color.

TASTE: high acidity — nervy, especially for a Donnhoff; lightly tropical; gooseberry/green grapes mix; light to medium-light mineral on the finish; proper Spat. — really, almost drinks like a Kabinett; moreish — insanely easy to drink; 9% alc. not noticeable; faint sense of saltiness, or umami. Some may find it too acidic, but I love the nervy energy that cuts through the r.s. in this wine. Very impressive. Drink or Hold.

My wife’s hidden gem wine in the Dönnhoff portfolio.

It’s absurd this only costs $30.

Is it hidden?

The price on Kirscheck is absurd.

Sometimes those hidden gems lie in plain sight.

Opened a 2015 Donnhoff Leistenberg Kab tonight. Just fantastic!

I have bought every vintage since 2000. Never paid more than $35.

Thanks for the note, went long for daughter’s birth year including baseball bats. Tempting to pull one but will probably try a GG first.
