TN: 2005 Domaine Denis Bachelet Côte de Nuits Villages

2005 Domaine Denis Bachelet Côte de Nuits Villages - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages (7/15/2018)
Two years since my last bottle, and while it’s good, it is not all that interesting. Solid, four square and lacking nuance. Thankfully it only cost $25 back in the day.

That refects very much a recent Bourgogne Rouge from rouget a couple of weeks ago. These lower level 2005’s will probably just stay wrapped up in their structure I’m afraid

Exactly that. Lower appellations are best in lesser vintages, somewhat counterintuitively but nevertheless easily demonstrably. Critics never get this because they never drink the wines a few years down the line.

I’ll somewhat disagree. I would instead say that lower level wines are better in less structured vintages.

Bachelet wines take lots of time. If it were my wine (and I were younger) I would just give it 5 or 10 years.

There was very little fruit left. Not sure what will still be there 5 years hence.

Indeed. This is an exchange I’ve had here numerous times. More time is not always going to help, almost certainly not if there’s little fruit left.

To the wine in question, I see I have one left. Sounds like I should give it a go soon, without too high hopes. My note on my last bottle from 2017 was more positive than yours, though, so we’ll see.

My prior taste in 2016 was more promising. I have several left, so will be forced to experiment with more time.

At least it wasn’t green like my 2011 was.
