TN: 2008 Stony Hill Chardonnay (USA, California, Napa Valley)

2008 Stony Hill Chardonnay - USA, California, Napa Valley (7/2/2018)
It had been years since my last bottle of Stony Hill anything, and this was a lovely reintroduction. I never had this vintage in its youth, so can’t speak to its overall evolution, but there’s no risk of downside from what I can tell. Stone fruit, as well as a pineapple essence combine with saline and light honeysuckle notes on the nose, and the fruit directly translates to the palate. There is still very fresh acidity, and only a hint of maturity on the palate.

Thanks for the tasting note, David!!

I have always been interested in trying the whites from Stony Hill.

I visited Stony Hill last month and they were pouring the 2008 - great stuff!

I bought 2013’s because I’m planning on cellaring them, but the 2008 was something special.

Is it worth popping a ‘13 now?

CJ, I opened one of mine last weekend to show to some friends who’d never had SH, and enjoyed it. But it made me think there’s absolutely no hurry on the other four. Give it time…

I tasted some bottles of the 08 SH Chard about 2 years ago - though long lasting to me more on the forward tropical side of their Chards (like the pineapple referenced).

What a fine winery!

Great place

I bought a bottle of the 13 and can’t wait to try it.
