2016 Saxum offering

#1 Post by Mike Van1 » June 27th, 2018, 5:06 pm

Surprised there has been no mention of the recent Saxum offiering. I’m a hard core Napa Cab guy but always a buyer of Saxum for something different.

Your next offering from Saxum Vineyards will begin Tuesday, July 17, 2018 and will be held until Monday, July 30, 2018 (magnums will be sold first come, first served). We invite you to place an order online between July 17th and 30th. After July 30th we cannot guarantee the wines will be available for purchase.

If you have questions or are unable to place an order online or over the phone during that time, simply let us know by replying to this message.

Enjoy the early days of summer!
Justin and Heather Smith

The offering will include our 2016 James Berry Vineyard ($98) and 2016 G2 Vineyard ($98). Our 2016 Terry Hoage Vineyard ($98) may be offered as wish a request item.

Click here if you would like to receive a text notification when an offering from Saxum Vineyards becomes available.

Just a heads up for those of you with deep cellars, the 2008, 2009 and 2011 vintages are drinking really well right now. But no hurry, they also still have years to go!
On July 17th you will receive an email around 9 am PST with Justin's release letter and a link to purchase your allocation online. To ensure delivery to your inbox we recommend clicking on the "Add to address book" link at the bottom of this email. We also recommend logging into the members page of our website to ensure your email, billing, and delivery information is current.

Almost 6-1/2 years on the waiting list now... Since prices are already right at my max, probably won't matter anyway. [cry.gif]

Does anyone know when they’ll be releasing the Downstream cuvée?

Saxum prices have held steady over the last four years that I’ve been a buyer and include shipping.

Very interesting. I was unaware of it. I like Cambie wines and I love Saxum. I'll have to see what the combination brings. I guess I'm going to have to clear out some more room in the overstuffed seller. Have to drink some more older vintages.

First I’m hearing of it too. It will be sold under the Saxum label? Pretty cool!

Seeing the rise in Napa pricing, these are an easy buy for me. I think they offer both early and late drinking enjoyment at a better price point.
How about the 2015 Rocket Block magnum?

A magnum of our extended age 2015 Rocket Block, 1.5 L ($296) will be included in your offering but it will be sold first come, first served. The 2015 Rocket Block was bottled exclusively in magnums because we produced a meager 130 cases of this beautiful wine.

Joel, I’ve been buying Saxum for years. These wines have a long drinking window, which begins as soon as the wine hits your doorstep.
Cheers,

Oh you young kids. I am a buyer at 66. You have to wait 6 months after shipping because he ships right after bottling, but after that, it's all about palate preference.

I have not been buying magnums of anything recently, due to storage space issues, but if that's the only way to get the 2015 Rocket Block, then I am in!

I had a 2010 Bone Rock Mag two weeks ago. I'm glad I opened up one magnum of storage space for the Rocket Block. I missed out on the first come, first serve 2005 Rocket Block because I was in a meeting when it was released and it was gone in minutes. Not a mistake I intend to make again. The chairman of the board of the bank will just have to wait. You have to keep your life in perspective.

I tasted this out of barrel back in November with Sasha (quick disclaimer: he’s a good friend of mine) and my immediate reaction was f&!# me, that’s good!
I would highly recommend buying some if offered. I believe the plan is to offer it in a box with 750’s and a magnum.

Back to the original topic, extended aged Rocket Block magnums? :o

See my MacDonald Pay it Forward Offline? You want to organize one for Saxum in New York? I will put up a Saxum magnum. Which one? Not sure because there are a couple of errors in my Saxum Mags on CT, but how about the 2008 or 2009 Bone Rock, assuming they are not both gone. About 10 years ago, we did Saxum v. The Field in NYC with Justin. That's when I met Salil and had to pick him up off the floor. You could do that. IIRC, I brought a Pax 1.0. OR you could pick a specific winery. How about Alban vs. Saxum? or Next of Kyn?

PS - If you hadn't noticed, this might be called a dare, or throwing down a gauntlet, or calling you out, or whatever. I prefer to refer to it as an invitation.

Hey everybody! Good to see all your familiar names up here chatting away!!!

First of all, thanks for the orders, we really appreciate them, that's for sure.

And to answer Downstream questions..... we are planning to keep it separate from Saxum, so in a month or two we should have the website and such complete, at that point we will send an email out to all our current list and our waiting list to sign up on this new list if interested. The wine will be released shortly after that in 3x.750L plus 1x1.5L in a fancy shmancy wood box. It's a pretty cool wine, you can definitely tell Cambie crafted it!

Anyways.... let me know if you have more questions, I'll try and check back soon, but flying home from Spain today so might not get on until tomorrow.

Cheers everyone!!

As a loyal long time customer, I'm begging you. Please no first come first served mailing list sign up. I missed out on the 2005 Rocket Block because I got a call from the CEO of a bank 2 minutes before the offering and I still remember. Same story with the Next of Kyn mailing list. I was 10 minutes late and had to wait four years.

And I love Cambie wines. One of my best memories of my uncle, who passed away last year, was when I was in DC and he invited me to a wine dinner and it turned out to be Cambie pouring Clos St Jean. We sat there for hours with him drinking Deus ex Machina. A very funny guy.

2016 Saxum offering

Went in for my full (greatly shrunken, for some reason) allocation. No option to wish list for mags or Rocket Block. Been taking my full allocations since 2014, but haven't moved up a tier yet. Sad day. Love this stuff!

OK. You're on. I checked the cellar. I will put up a 2009 Saxum Bone Rock MAGNUM. December 1, 2018. Put it up on Offline Planner if you want. We have a few months to pick a restaurant. Where will you be staying? I'm 10 years older than when I had to throw Salil over my shoulder and carry him to the train station, so maybe we should stay close to your hotel to make sure the Chicago kid gets home safe. What is your preferred cuisine?
Yes, that's a DM of 1978 Mouton!

Well firstly, throwing me over your shoulder would result in likely crushing to death, so dont try that !!!

I know your in NY but which part, im a little familiar but not an expert, it also depends on the ticket situation for the Bears Giants game, i hate crappy seats so lets see how expensive they are before final confirmation. Where are you in relationship to Giants stadium, that will dictate my hotel. Food im not overly fussy, but if im making a weekend of it then i would like to go somewhere at least interesting doesnt mean fancy and expensive though.

Ive slept on the streets on many cities worldwide !! sure i can handle an Uber in NY

No email for me. I am sad. It seems that I have been on the waiting list forever.

With a couple posts regarding folks still waiting, I checked my purchases. I bought my first allocation in 2013. I think I waited 2 years for that, give or take.

I signed up in 2012 and made the list in early 2016. It looks like they are now falling on the later end of the 4-6 years wait.
