Bedrock’s new tasting room at the General Joseph Hooker House

Bedrock Wine Co. has a tasting room. It opens on July 1st in the General Joseph Hooker House off the Sonoma Plaza at the El Paseo de Sonoma

I was honored to get a sneak preview today of what is in store.

Morgan and company did a wonderful job sprucing the old place up and decorating with historic photos, maps, press, grower info etc… He even stole Kristin Wastell from Ravenswood to co-manage the tasting room!

There is a cozy patio where I chose to taste. Morgan built a stone wall at the back end from stones out of the Bedrock vineyard property. It replaced fence. The low wall allows a nice afternoon breeze to blow through keeping the patio very comfortable. Decorations are very tasteful and well thought out.

The leather menu was full of vineyard and grower info.

The line-up did not suck! I also got to try the ‘17 Lulu and ‘16 Oakville Farmhouse.

Stems are top notch.

And the wines… my favorites today were the Monte Rosso which was elegant and a throwback to Joel’s old Ravenswood style, the UTW, Lulu and the ‘16 Oakville Farmhouse that had an incredible nose that screamed Oakville and wonderfully approachable fruit.

The whole operation is well thought out, well presented and a fitting tribute to the man who planted the original Bedrock vineyard over 130 years ago. If you are planning a visit to the Valley be sure to make your tasting appointment. You will not be disappointed. You can do that through the Bedrock web page. Big thanks for the preview and my congatulations on a job well done.

I took this one because I thought the guy circled looked like Chris Cottrell [snort.gif]

Phenomenal sneak-peek, Brian!!

I know I will not be out there to visit the Bedrock tasting room anytime soon, so your abundant photos are helpful in my vicarious enjoyment of your experience.

The historic pictures and maps sound awesome! Plus, there’s the opportunity to taste wines that one cannot afford or do not wish to open yet.

So…“hooker jokes”?

thanks for the photos/recap, Brian. Looks really great!

It’s been told that the General was a fancier of ladies of the night and that he was responsible for their nickname!

Yes I’ve heard the term is shortened from “Hooker’s Girls” — the group of prostitutes that would follow his soldiers out in the field after battle during Custer (?) era?

One of those people whose names became words, e.g. boycott

I thought it was more of a coincidence/apocryphal story? E.g.,

I’ve read other sources on this in the past that argued against the etymology of the term as being solely connected to the Civil War general, though his history probably didn’t help the matter…

Already scheduled our visit when out there in November. Looks great!

Envious, Brian! Thanks for sharing!

Is the fee for making the joke or for hearing it?

Both!

Pretty flipping awesome

Chris definitely has a fuzzy, out of focus, Bigfoot-on-the-run quality to him, even in real life.

Congratulations! It’s gonna be awesome

One day I’ll make it up there. Huge congrats Bedrock; looks sick!

The story about prostitutes deriving their name from Fighting Joe does not appear to be true.

Thanks for the preview and great photos, Brian. A visit will definitely be on my itinerary the next time I get out to wine country.
