Pours like a Pinot, light cranberry, tastes like rose petal flavored hard candy, finishes with a healthy dose of chalk. 12.5% abv, fresh, racy, 100% smile inducing.

I read Hardy's winemaking notes on this - surprised he didn't call this one his 'problem child' :-) Glad to hear it's showing well . . .

Thanks for the timely tasting note, Brian!!!

I wasn't sure exactly what to expect from this wine. It sounds like it would be a great warm day sipper. :)

Brian- Thanks for the note! I'm glad you dug it-- Pobega'd like a champ!

We think people are going to have a lot of fun with this wine.

One note for everyone with the whites- The Chenin and Vio love some air- Decant 45min or so and serve cool slightly cooler. (I forgot that in the release notes)

I popped one of these yesterday after doing some yard-work and it disappeared really fast. Brian's note sums it up perfectly. Very tasty and dangerously drinkable! [cheers.gif]

Popped one last night; was great right out of the bottle and today tried it a bit chilled and it was fantastic!

I would love to hear/read anyone's Impressions on the Dirty & Rowdy "Unfamiliar" California Mourvèdre after 24, 36, 48 hours...

Personally, I don't think there is a need to take this one out that long. It pops on day one and day 2, drinks well on day 3, and is a bit tired on day 4. Keep in mind this is a lower priced, early drinking wine...

It’s been 61 hrs since I drank the bottle and my impressions have not wavered. [wink.gif]

Whoa. Just popped my first bottle, and I think I’m enjoying it even more than the ‘16 shake ridge but we’ll see if that stands true after the shake ridge gets a little more rest. But hot dang the Unfamiliar is tasty. Sad I only have 4 moar!

Paired our first bottle with Prime Rib and Sweet Potatoes this past weekend, and it was fantastic. Drunk over ~4 hours and the wife and I saw both saw evolution in the glass towards the chalk flavor Brian mentions after about 45 minutes of air. We enjoyed it right out of the gate, but really started to enjoy it about an hour in.

3 bottles already consumed over here and I'm sorely regretting not ordering more. A light chill works wonders.

Thanks again everyone. The response to this wine has been fantastic. We have been getting re-orders every day.

Also- If you are out here, I wanted to thank the "Dude, I'm With The Band"... 12 (case) pack purchaser. That is going to be one helluva party!!!!

Couldn't resist a re-up.

And yeah right - 12 case purchase is hilarious. What a great idea.

Did someone say party? Opened my first bottle of the Unfamiliar last night and it is a legit force to be reckoned with. I found that it was best after a 30 minute decant which really allowed the middle palate depth to reveal itself. This is just a gem of a wine that is, quite frankly, wildly underpriced for the quality it delivers. Hardy, if karma exists, and I believe it does, this release has filled your karma coffers to the brim. You're playing with spiritual house money from now on.

One more vote for this being a great bottle of wine, easy going enough for friends that aren’t that into wine and plenty going on if you want to spend some time with it. Hope I bought enough!

I ordered a case of this today after trying a bottle from my original six last weekend. Those who enjoyed the Especial in prior years should like the Unfamiliar.

Popped a bottle today. Not much to add. This is totally crushable. Ordered some more. Will be crushing this all spring/summer. Pop and pour and bring some joy to your life.

So I only grabbed one of these and a couple chenins. With the high praise here, I'm pretty sure I'm going to regret that. Will pop my bottle sometime over the next few days to see if I need to place a larger order

*not "dude, I'm with the band" large unfortunately....but that would be a fun-ass party that I'd love to attend!
