One of the ways of dealing with Covid seclusion is by relieving boredom looking for interesting wines. Not counting purchases specifically for tastings(+22) I have bought the equivalent of 5 cases this month, and drunk one case.

I suspect next month will be bad, as I will be buying a few 2019 futures.

For the month of May:

Purchased 15
Consumed 23
Down 8

For the year:

Purchased 69
Consumed 111
Down 42

I have committed to some purchases in June so will be lucky to break even unless I sell some wine.

Bad month for this thread. Bought 31, 4 being magnums. Drank 22 and gave away a magnum and a bottle, so 24, a near consumption record, Covid to blame.

Good direction here. Down ten bought only six (LM Chablis, half 2017 MdT, half 2018 Sechet).

+47 and -3 ....

A bunch of that is new release vs drinkable now (42/47 are 2017 or 2018) so that’s just a release timing thing.

I do need to drink more wine. 3 bottles in a month is pitiful

Moving the right direction, though buying too much.

Consumed: 56
Purchased: 18
Net: -38

Of those consumed, 7 were either DOA/corked or gifted.

I have to enjoy the success while I can. I'm afraid there's a sizeable pull from France scheduled to hit next month....

Lamentable progress since I started my cellar inventory control plan at the end of September. None of my modest goals have been met, even as I revise them along the way to make them easier and more realistic. I am on that train that was in the film with John Voigt and Eric Roberts. My only consolation is that there are certainly worse crimes that I am not guilty of !

Didn't buy any wine for two months, a record, then found myself purchasing nearly a case of 20- to 25-dollar 2016 Chianti Classico. That opened up the flood gates again.

Cheers,
Doug

My cellar has gotten a bit bigger than anticipated, so I am trying to reduce it, but I can’t deny that given my younger age my drinking horizon is likely longer than some on this thread and that some of my purchases are intended for much later consumption. So it’s a balancing act between dipping into the cellar for things that are drinking well and not letting it grow too much disproportionally with wines intended for much later consumption. June ended up being an extreme outlier. As a reference point May saw 19 purchases and 37 consumed and April 5 purchased and 14 consumed.

Hello. I'm Jim and I am an out of control wine accumulator.

From a post I made here at the end of September:
" I am going to use this thread as an “intervention” of sorts. My modest goal is to not have more bottles on hand one year from now than I do now. I'll try to monitor monthly to keep me aware. Wish me well!
September 28, 2019 172 bottles of wine: 76 red, 82 white, 14 champagne"

Where I am now:
August 1, 2020 217 bottles of wine: 86 red, 86 white, 24 champagne/sparkling

My modest goal turned into trying to climb Mt Everest and I will miss my goal by a wide margin (unless I don't buy anything and also drink 45 bottles of wine in the next two months!) I have been thinking a bit about the near futility of wine cellar reduction while being on Wine Berserkers . Reading TNs, comments and discussion on lots of interesting and tempting wines out there to take a look at. Throw in online wine “deals” and you have the perfect storm for wine buying.

I know that I have to buy fewer new wines and drink more of what I already have on hand to get this done. I am going to do like the rest of you folks on this thread, and try to monitor monthly ins and monthly outs and report it.

One day at a time.
Age merely shows what children we remain.
