Another down month for us - purchased 21 and consumed 36 per CT. A week at the shore with extended family for my husband, who provided most of the wine, helped our numbers. Let's call it 40 as we'll probably drink a couple of bottles today, I'm cooking with one right now, and I'm betting Jonathan didn't record yesterday's bottles at the beach.

So net of -19 for us!

Edited - there were some extras the family consumed at the beach without me, now entered into CT. Total of 42 consumed, so actually down by 21 for June.

I’m in a dangerous position going into July.i won’t be drinking while I recover from my ankle surgery and I’m spending a lot of time in bed with my foot up so the temptation to look at wine sites is very strong. I marked off over a dozen bottles in winebid yesterday but didn’t bid on any.

Good month for me. 30 consumed and 6 purchased. Down almost 400 bottles from peak 5 years ago. Almost half-way to my goal of a 2000 bottle cellar.

June a wash, bought 12, drank 12, so no change..However, do not anticipate buying anything until September so July and August will probably see some further reduction

July was bad. Not drinking anything, stuck in bed with my foot up for most of the month...

At least I have a dinner on Thursday assuming my ankle doesn't act up. The bad part that I can't carry too much yet so I'll probably restrict myself to 2 bottles.

Beginning: 644
Goal: 600
Current 641

April: +0, -5 639
May: +0 -13 626
June: +13, -11 628
July: +13, -0 641

July was a net plus 2. Still failing.

Not too bad on the purchase side but a hip replacement throttled back consumption.

August will be better.

Now down about 7% in a year and a half. Unfortunately, that's off a fairly large number. Sort of like boasting of a 7% weight loss off 250 pounds.

Which gets me thinking.... Maybe we should form something like Weight Watchers, where we meet and offer each other support. When we hit our targets, we can bring out the good stuff -- a virtuous circle.

This is, of course, a large part of the difficulty and a contributor to the sense of futility, whether we're talking wine or weight.

Still, it's a worthy goal, and even being aware of the net in/outflows for each month is helping me think about it in a more balanced way. I don't mind having a lot of wine - I'm delighted to have a a lot of wine - but I am also mindful that it makes sense to be on the down slope of the accumulation curve, given our ages and holdings.

For the month, purchased 29 and consumed 9.

Down from 740 on May 5th to 716 today, and emptied a locker at storage. I should spend the refund that I receive from them on wine, right? I have not purchase a single bottle since Berserker Day.

Total failure this month. Consumed 42, including two on deck for tonight, and sold a case, so down 54. But added 186 with a big order in France when the Euro hit a 52 week low. We are so not good at this.

Did not do too well this month Consumed 31 and purchased 25 for a net of -6. Release of '16 CdP and Cayuse mailing list were the culprits. YTD I am down 68 so I am headed in the right direction just not very fast.

So far this year
Additions 0.3%
Consumption 7.2%
Net down 6.9% on the year.

A good year so far! And Fall is usually a consumption period, not a purchase period, for me. Hoping for a 10% reduction on the year.

But a local store had a huge anniversary sale - 35% off select goodies - so I give myself a pass.

Just saw this thread...I need serious help!! 5600+ in the cellar and turning 55 in November. 2017 was the first year that I went negative with 350 purchased and 367 consumed. I've been doing better this year with +193 and -289. I been on a serious diet the last couple of months though, so consumption is WAY down...but the must buys (2016 Dujac allocation) are still coming in. Talking about downsizing in 5-7 years once this kids are all out of college and the thought of moving all that wine is daunting... [help.gif]

I am going the opposite direction again, and I refuse to get another storage unit for my house so I plan to donate off a bunch of wine for Falltacular, to raise some money for Laura's House and at the same time, make some space. With Champagne and the small cadre of producers in CA that I continue to buy, I will just need to stay within my cellar's 'pants' (even though another WBer is trying to give me another 600 bottle unit.....No No NO!)

Back to moving in the right direction for September: bought 24, consumed 30, net of -6.

We have annual purchases to be made in the next month, so I doubt I'll be in negative territory again for a awhile, especially as we'll be in Japan for most of November.
