TN: Lafarge Cristia Clos des Papes Certan BV Phelps

Some notes from a recent gathering:

2013 Domaine Michel Lafarge Meursault – stone fruit and good acidity. Nice

2015 Dom. De Cristia CNduP – some very nice dark fruit up front, nowhere near as structured as classic vintages used to be but balanced and with sweet raspberry fruit. Drinks surprisingly well now. Maybe a mid term wine?

I jumped in and opened the wine I’d brought at this point.

1995 Clos des Papes CNduP – still quite dark colour, with dark fruit (cherry, raspberry) and a bit of meat, long finish with soft tannin. At a perfect place now.

2001 Ch. Certan de May – this Pomerol was showing some nice development with some mushroom and black cherry in the nose and excellent structure with good length and soft tannin, nicely rounded and developing some tobacco in the nose with time.

1986 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour – dark wine with a sweet chocolate nose and good mid-palate stuffing, but a slightly oddly prominent terminal acidity. Lots of good secondary and tertiary elements have developed.

1995 Joseph Phelps Johannisberg Riesling Selected Late Harvest – An RS of 14.4% but nicely balanced and rich, opening with a decidedly coconut nose and showing as a delicate elegant rather than brash
