I’m trying to break out of my Cali Cab/Syrah habits without buying too much at random. I’ve done some internet searches on good wine tasting courses in Manhattan to let me sample a variety of other wines (like a Barolo tasting, Burg tasting, etc. etc.). I’d like something more geared toward the higher end, if that makes sense? I have came up with:
Stems
Italian Wine Merchants
House of Burg (cant figure out if they really do tastings, and when)
New York Vintners (but their schedule link is always broken)
CorkBuzz
I feel like the Eataly wine store used to have some, but cant find it anymore.
Executive Wine Seminars.
Chambers Street, Flatiron and Grapes are good wine stores that put on dinner tastings. Grapes is in White Plains but occasionally has dinners in Manhattan.
Some restaurants also do wine dinners around a theme, like a particular producer’s wines. La Pizza Fresca comes to mind.
Aside from the dinners Chamber St. also has good in store tastings. For example tomorrow night from 5-7 they have “Florian Lauer of Weingut Peter Lauer, AND Johannes Weber, Franz Weber & Lars Carlberg of Hofgut Falkenstein” in store and are pouring their wines.
