Quick 2015 Bordeaux Question

Looking at getting a bottle for my son’s birth year…
saw that for 2015, all the first growth are $450-600… except Margaux…which is showing $1400 on WS…

anyone know why that is??

Well, a lot of people seemed to think it was the WOTV (from the commune of the vintage), but that doesn’t explain the massive price differential. It was also Paul Pontallier’s final vintage before his untimely passing, so perhaps there is extra demand for that reason as well.

It has a one off fancy bottle - like Mouton 2000. Plus the wine is good. Simple as that.

Wow. Gorgeous bottle. Not worth a $8-900 premium tho.

Two distinct issues. The $1,400 bottle is a special limited edition bottle, from what the email offers indicated. However, the 2015 has been more expensive (around $750-950) than the other first growths for a while, probably due both to it being considered the best wine of the vintage and it being Paul Pontallier’s last vintage before he died.

There was an interesting article on liv-ex about this a couple weeks ago:

Prior to the announcement, it was trading in the $800 range. The $1400 seems a market reaction created by all this press… and perhaps that was the intention.
