TN: Cote Rôtie La Divine Jean-Luc Colombo 2014

Bravo to Jean-Luc Colombo. This is a gorgeous - make it quite divine - Cote-Rotie exuding bright vivid dark cherry and blackberry fruit along with an almost wet stone aspect coupled with white pepper that is more pronounced on the veritably suave palate, not so much silky as smooth. Long and cool blue fruit finish but always ripe and echoing the rich, but never “over rich”, mid palate. Just delicious! 93 points, easy.

Has the oak been tamed? Admittedly, I haven’t had a Colombo wine since (I think) the 2005 vintage, but I’m still picking out splinters from that bottle.

I know in his earlier years he was a passionate advocate for new barriques.

Only 15% new on the La Divine according to John L-L. Though he states that Colombo Cornas from the mid-2000s used 75% new.
