2007 Antonio Vallana e Figlio Gattinara - Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Gattinara (8/23/2017)
– decanted approx. 20 min. before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over 2 - 3 hours –

NOSE: moderately aged red fruit aromas; pronounced mineral note; hint of spicy cigar wrapper.

BODY: brick red color of medium-light to medium depth with bricking throughout; medium-light bodied. DIAM closure; no sediment present.

TASTE: light to medium-light brett note; taste pretty much mirrors the Nose: red-fruited, mineral, and cigar wrapper; pleasant primary-tertiary mix, with a slight lean more towards tertiary; 13% alc.; seems to be wide open for business right now, and I’m not sold on the idea that there’s much room for further improvement in the cellar; medium to medium+ acidity; I imagine this would be a perfect accompaniment to rabbit or veal bolognese. Gut impression score: 90 – 91. Drink now – 2022.
