TN's: 2011 Maestro Raro; 2015 Planeta Frappato; Fourney & Fils Brut Rose; aka, Perfect Weekend Wines

Veuve Fourny & Fils Brut Rose Premier Cru Vertus: extremely expressive nose of precise red fruit and fresh baked biscuits; on the palate it is round and creamy with bright red fruit (sweet fresh-picked strawberries, tart raspberries, and crisp cherries) that pops; imagine savoring a rich strawberry-cream smear on a Biscoff, the taste of which stays on your palate for an extraordinary amount of time; absolutely delicious

2015 Planeta Frappato: intoxicating perfume of fresh raspberries and mysterious dark notes lead to a palate of dark raspberry jam notes, dark spices and smoke; perfect acidity and balance; in no way syrupy or cloying despite being rich with flavor and nuance; the pleasures of a Burgundian nose (intoxicating bouquet) at a fraction of the price; a mid-weight treasure that lends itself to long long al fresco lunches filled with exuberant conversation, Italian cold-cuts, cheeses, and good hard Italian bread; delivers an unbelievable QPR at an unbelievable price of $20; I’m reloading

2001 Felsina Maestro Raro: a nose of tart Bing cherries, supple leather, eucalyptus and mint leads to a luxury cuvee that is black as night and silky smooth; the palate is filled with notes of tobacco, cigar shop and opulent rich sweet concentrated dark red fruit and chocolate; one bottle over the weekend wasn’t going to cut it, so had no choice but to pop another, and wasn’t disappointed by doing so

all three of these wines were in the 93/94 point range, more than reasonably priced for the quality they delivered, and were a wonderful way to celebrate the weekend

Marstro Raro is the Dunn Howell of Italian cabernet. Takes a long time to come around.

Kelly,
very good analogy to the Dunn; plenty of stuffing, but also plenty to like at this stage, especially if you don’t mind drinking on the young side
