2012 Kiona Sangiovese Estate Reserve - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain (9/24/2017)
Dark garnet with a bricking rim, leather notes on the nose. Dry, bright red berry with significant acid, bold fruit and tannins. Bold body with a good balance, stemmy tannins having a touch of bitter. Fruit of plums, currants, pomegranate, leather and forest, balsam, pine and mushrooms. A complex wine that still has room to soften a few hard edges, but is drinking better now with food. Another night and those hard edges have softened resulting in a bold red fruited wine balanced by acid and chewy tannins. (90 pts.)
