TN: 2000 Château Bellefont-Belcier

  • 2000 Château Bellefont-Belcier - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (9/24/2017)
From an original case bought on release. Decanted and served immediately.

An excellent bottle! I’ve not opened a bottle in about two years, and the time has done wonders for the wine.

The color was a deep red with little thinning. After about 10 minutes of air, the palate started showing blackberries and cassis with some smokiness and violets. The nose had distinctive leather and cedar. Overall it seemed fully mature but far from starting to deteriorate. I would say it will drink well up to its 20th year. (90 pts.)

That’s a terrific little wine, and a good value.

Ditto. Thanks for the tasting note.

It’s used to be a great value but then prices started to increase and no longer an affordable daily house wine. The 98 is a great bottle too.

I love the 2000. Great wine. Haven’t bought it in more recent vintages, but it was such a value in 2000.

My records show that I paid $279 for the case on release.

I sold a case of he this wine just weeks ago at auction; I had been drinking other bottles and knew the value. The site took 17% of the take, but it was time to be drunk, so I think the buyers got good value.
