TNs: 06 Hirtzberger GV Smaragd Axpoint & 13 Donnhoff Tonschiefer Riesling Dry Slate

Held a fundraiser dinner at our house last night, and gumbo was on the menu. Wines served included:

  • 2006 Franz Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Axpoint - Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau (9/24/2017)
Gold color. Nose of apricot, alpine floral notes, and orange peel. Zesty and luxuriously rich on the palate with layers of grapefruit, peach, musk, and a bit of petrol. Fresh acidity and buzzy grip on the finish. Quite enjoyable. (91 pts.)
  • 2013 Dönnhoff Tonschiefer Riesling Dry Slate - Germany, Nahe (9/24/2017)
White gold color. Nose of white peach, schist, mountain flowers, melon. Fresh, acidic, grippy and dry amidst layers of delectable lychee and lime flavors coursing over a stony base. Long finish of quenching white fruit and mineral. Absolutely fantastic paired with gumbo. (91 pts.)
