Tried this trio over the weekend, side-by-side:

- Kenneth-Crawford LafondVnyd/SantaRitaHills (15.5%) 2006: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; lovely blackberry/Syrah some cracked black pepper/c-c lightly pungent bit roasted/Rhonish slight wet dog fur bit tighter/closed rather complex nose; tarter/leaner more austere strong blackberry/Syrah/spicy more structured some cracked black pepper slight Rhonish/roasted/smoked meats fairly complex flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long/lingering more structured strong blackberry/Syrah/spicy bit harder rather black pepper/Rhonish finish w/ light smooth tannins; more black pepper & more Rhonish character; a lovely fully-mature SBC Syrah.
A wee BloodyPulpit:
- K-C was a partnership between Kenneth Gummere and Mark Horvath. The partnership has since dissolved and they have gone their separate ways. In their day, they made as fine a SantaBarbara Rhone as you could find. Followed them from the very start, I did/I did.
All three of these Syrahs were distinctly different and fully-mature SBC Syrahs. The Larner was a bit strangeer, the Lafond more interesting & more Rhonish.
