I got two wonderful surprises in the mail today!
Thank you, Brian, for the two beautiful corks (A Tribute to Grace, and Wilde Farm) and Steve for the three (Castigliones and the Sorentberg).

I love them. Later, I will look forward to admiring them at my leisure before tagging and bagging them.
I'm actually looking into finding a display box of some kind now that my collection is approaching 70!
Yes: I'm a bird cork geek and proud of it!
Thanks, Berserkerszszsz!

I remember distinctly that Kanu had a bird on its cork a long time ago when I ordered a bottle at Blue Ribbon, and doesn't Ravenswood have some semblance of a bird on the cork?

Greetings again.
Thanks to you kind berserkers who indulge a non-sophisticate, I have only one cork (I collect bird-related corks, and I have 64 unduplicated ones) which has defied identification...
Here it is. Speculations have included raven, crow, penguin, lyre bird, trogon, phoenix... but no brand has been ferreted out!

Two photos show the rotated cork and whole design.
Recognize this rascal, please????

Dear Dave (English),

They just arrived!!!!!!!! The two gorgeous corks.
Thank you so, so, so much. I shall now go about photographing them, putting the names on my master-list, and in general geeking out over the two lovely corks. I am also hooked on the TimTams. Absolutely delicious cookies. I'm truly overwhelmed by your kindness. If I can ever repay you in some way, I'd love to.

I must now go play with my corks!

Gila, good to hear that the community is supporting your ardent love of the cork. Pretty cool that members are sending you corks for your cork collection. To get some cookies with corks is even better as I'm sure one works up an appetite playing with all those corks.

Keep it up!

Thanks Bobby. It's beyond gracious and generous, isn't it?
The fun-est part is researching the wineries.
I should have mentioned the two corks.
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue (France) Extra special, very coveted wine.
SAMI-ODI (Australia)
I have 60-something, now. Counting duplicates, probably 100. That's heavy lifting! Candy is much appreciated!

Gila Gatewood wrote:Greetings!

I collect wine corks with bird-related themes (long story... I love wine, and birds, and I have a 33-year-old companion parrot).

I have 60-plus (no duplicates) corks, and among them, two "mysteries" (unidentified corks), which were sent to me by a buddy who can't recall the brands.
Would you please take a look and tell me if you recognize them?
MANNN, I wish I had decided to collect bird-related wine LABELS... then I wouldn't have to buy the bottle to get a look at the cork!

Thank you for looking! And thanks to those of you who replied to me elsewhere on this subject.

Upon closer inspection I find those to be terrifying.

This entire thread has my head spinning. The wine/bird correlation is very much real.

wow! who knew there were so many wine corks with birds on them! WHY is this a thing? or is it just a fun coincidence? are there other common themes on corks that are not wine related? (sorry if i'm diving too deep into this). just completely fascinated now!

While not strictly wine related, it seemed fitting to place this here:

Wife is found guilty of murdering her husband after the couple’s pet PARROT 'outed her' by repeating 'don't f***ing shoot' in the victim's voice
A woman has been found guilty of murdering her husband in a crime witnessed only by their pet parrot.

Glenna Duram, 49, was convicted of first-degree murder in a Michigan courtroom Wednesday over the death of her husband, 46-year-old Martin Duram.

Tim! Absolutely! On my wish-list, too. Thank you sincerely.

Alicia, I have no memory of how it started, for me... I just recall suddenly having a handfull and... thedn startsd searching. I have a 33-year-old pet parrot, and I love birds, and... and... and...

Tim Tam SLAMMM, baby, oh yeah.
Well, I had set aside two for my brother to taste-test. He now has ONE to test, and possibly not even that by tomorrow.
You can get 'em in America now, via a few different routes. For those of you who haven't partaken, they're kinda like the well-known KitKat bar, but with extra rich chocolate flavor and a sort of honey-vanilla coating. Instantly addictive...
Thanks again, Dave, for corks and TimTams!

That's none other than Ayn Rand. I loved the photograph, plus I thought it might be fun to celebrate a female philosopher. Basically, it came down to my current avatar or the below pic of Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre:

[resizeableimage=600,400]http://theredlist.com/media/database/mu ... edlist.jpg[/resizeableimage]

Camus can do, but Sartre is smartre.

I am completely enchanted.
Many thanks.
For some reason, I think my parrot would have adored her. That is at once a huge compliment and an uncertain criticism... much like from the reactions which wine my dear departed mother -in-law made in her basement, from dandelions.
It was divinely unholy.
It helped define heaven and hell.
I shall desist now lest I show my heathen upbringing.

Looking at those photos, it struck me that this bird cork thing has served you well as a reason to open a lot of bottles.

I’m thinking maybe I might start my own “Mise en bouteille à la propriété” collection. Less compelling visually, to be sure, but still a very useful rationale, no?

Hello, friends, from an inveterate lurker and occasional drop-in to pursue my passion of collecting bird-related wine corks. I have some 60 (unique) and have identified all but this mystery. I've posted it before (no luck) so I thought I'd check in to see if anybody has recalled or run into it, or has any clues. A friend found it in a collection of corks in an antique/vintage store...
And thanks, always and forever, to all who have contributed to my collection!

Still lurking and learning...
Hey, can somebody help me, please?
I would love to add a SCREAMING EAGLE WINERY bird cork to my eccentric little collection, but...
I'm loathe to invest in a bottle (or even an 'empty', selling on eBay for 1-200 bucks) until I know that the cork does in fact have a logo or label that's bird-related. Surely it is! Right? Right????
Does somebody know?

Goose feathers?

This is the mark on the cork of every bottle of Southern Rhône by Chateau de St. Cosme.

Pictured next to a vintage double lever screw that amuses me, given the obvious resemblance. There is another one from the 1930s called the Hootch Owl, but very expensive.

Bird-related Wine Corks!

#93 Post by Gila Gatewood »

That is a (ahem!) hoot!

Thank you so much. Southern Rhone, Chateau de St. Cosme. It's now on my list.

I think that's a very handsome cork! Can't wait to meet one.

Again, my thanks.

Bird-related Wine Corks!

Thanks to the magnanimous David Glasser, I now have a ~Screaming Eagle~ cork in my collection! I could never have gotten one on my own, David, due to my unfathomable refusal to sell my car for funding. Behold it below, in all its majesty!

So MANY of you have been so kind and indulgent in sharing your birdy corks with me.

Thank you, David, thank you!

Bird-related Wine Corks!

#95 Post by Gila Gatewood »

Gee, I had a nice experience last night. We had supper guests (business related, with the goal of casual friendship). It was going well, and at one point, one of the husbands noticed the basket of wine corks ostentatiously displayed (see below). Turns out he and the other husband are wine lovers. They actually sat side by side on a couch and went through the corks, with appropriate ooohs and ahhhhs at this one or that. The two wives and my husband pretty much scratched their heads and made small talk. I just beamed, knowing that (thanks in significant part to your contributions) I had a most impressive stash! Forgive me if I just kinda let them think I had accumulated them all on my own! Thanks, Berserkers!

Boo!

It's been a while since I posted (thank you to wildfires, pandemic, gun violence sequelae, and more!) and nobody needs a good bottle of wine more than I do! I'm still acquiring bird corks. I got a notice from this site that Brian Tuite (Suzor Wines?) sent me a message about a cork. I replied (hopefully to the correct channel in the email, but I tried to find the link here, with no luck so far.
Anywayyy... hello and cheers to all, from yours truly and the bird.

I drank a Suzor Chardonnay last night and it had this cork in it. Wondering if you have one yet.
