Probably not as dense as the 2006 but had a beautiful flavor, good acidity and maybe a longer finish than the 2006. Probably the 2006 was more powerful and maybe the 2007 was more elegant. I like both very much.
Your response demands that get some in lieu of getting more 06` of which I have 9 bottles left. Thank you.
Hope that you like it.

Can you compare it to the 06` Howard?

I know nothing about the bottle contents, but this looks like a total PITA to cellar:

Agreed that bottle although beautiful would be a pain to store. It would be a nice bottle to save after it has been drank as it is quite unusual. I am almost tempted to buy one, but especially on the first bottling the description of sherry madeira toffee licorice and oxidative, are not necessarily flavors i would enjoy in my Champagne. I might enjoy it though as it depends how prominent these flavors are and if my palate senses them at all. Think i will pass as would rather not risk it. I wish someone I knew had a bottle so I could try it, or there were serious walk around champagne tastings near me so I could make educated decisions.

I have a Vinotemp, and I am certain that it would lock the doors to me if I got within 2 feet of the cellar handle to put a bottle like that in there. PITA is being kind.

I drank a bottle of the 96 at Republique last year, it was delicious. I just kept the bottle in the regular fridge for the week or so I had it before we popped it.

The de Venoge bottles for the Cuvee des Princes and Louis XV are indeed oddballs in terms of glass (both very similar, though slightly different bottles) and a pain to store, but I don't see de Venoge changing it anytime soon. Cuvee des Princes was the prestige vintaged cuvee until the 1995 vintage when Louis XV was introduced as the new prestige wine and Cuvee des Princes become a NV prestige line-up below the Louis XV. Currently the Cuvee de Princes is the best QPR by far and almost always as good as (and sometimes better than) Louis XV. The 95 and 96 Louis XV keep showing up on the market and most releases are original disgorgements cellared at the winery. They tend to come out at the $75-$125 price point and when they trend towards the lower end they can be a nice buy. I don't see the wines improving and they aren't something I would purchase years down the line, but when you can get bottles fairly fresh from the winery cellars these are a nice mature look at the 95 and 96 vintages.

Dennis,

I had ordered two the last time it was offered. Brad Baker likes a previous release, and like you, I found the description intriguing. I’m debating ordering one more.

Yeah my single biggest shipment ever... I had to ask them to ship in two separate batches as my off-site storage can't fit that many shippers at once.

Sooo much good stuff though, LOTS of bubbs and some nice birth year wines for my daughter. champagne.gif

Just saw the Calsac offer. I recall Greg selling the Rochefort bottling last year, which was 2014 base so I wonder if this new release is a different base year--2015? The Maladries looks interesting, although the bottle shape reminds me of Ruinart, with that shape that are PITA to store. But, given the clean farming and also the BdB core of the wine, I'm in as I am light on BdB stuff. The Rose de Craie also looks like a good Rose fit for $40.

Wasn't planning on buying wine this weekend but Calsac is right in my zone so............IN! champagne.gif

I asked for 1 of each of the wines you mentioned. I’m starting to get a serious hankering for small growers making low dose and zero dose wine. I had a NV Pierre Gerbais Champagne Extra Brut L'Osmose last night that really blossomed into a delicious wine with an hour or so of air. It was rather shrill and simple open opening, but with air went through a pretty amazing transformation.

Russ, good going on the Gerbais. When i visited Aurelien Gerbais in May, I learned so much with him in the 2 hours or so that he spent with me. Love that guy, and love as much what they are doing in the Aube. That cuvee you had, while I had a few bottles early on that I could not get my head around, the last few have been on and it's a terrific take on Chardonnay. The soils down on their property (which he shares with Bouchard) are a lot like Chablis--terrific area.

Glad to see you continue to wade further into the waters of Champagne. god, it's fun, isn't it.

Interesting that you mention he shares property with Bouchard as I found a real similarity between the two once the Gerbais had a chance to breath and Chablis with bubbles is a great descriptor. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more Gerbais.

A few random thoughts:

- Etienne Calsac's Clos des Maladries is downright awesome and this is a wine that can really takes him into the big time. I'm shocked this is being offered as he only makes around 1,000 bottles from this single plot in Avize. It can be a tough find even in Champagne. Not sure if it is the 2013 or 2014 being offered, but this wine is awesome.

- Vilmart's Coeur de Cuvee is stellar as usual and a normal purchase especially in weaker vintages when its quality really shows

- For some reason, Deutz made lots of splits of their prestige cuvees in 2008 (William Deutz, Amour de Deutz Rose, and Amour de Deutz BdB). All are winners. They are often sold in a 3 pack with one of each which is a fun way to experience them all. The BdB is my favorite and the Rose my least favorite, but all are good and drink at a high level.

Fine! I'm in for three, as well... since you are all soooo convinced it's a good deal. ;)

The BdB is my favorite and the Rose my least favorite, but all are good and drink at a high level.
what was the offer price on the calsac?

$75 and I’m probably going to regret not buying more than a single bottle.
