I reluctantly passed; going to focus more on champagne for longer term aging atm.

Reluctantly passed as well due to my Rhys order hitting this credit card cycle.

Went for the Hebrart. Never tried it. TNs sound largely positive. Trying to explore bubbles more these days --- an annual promise that I've not followed-through on until recently.

Good plan, Graf.

I dropped off all the empty Falltacular shippers and picked up another 8 bottles of bubbly late today. Marguet and Larmandier-Bernier for the cellar.

We have bought before and quite liked it. I asked for 12 bottles this go-round. Incredible QPR.

Nice drop; I really like the r&l legras; wish they had NV or 08 bdb tho, had one recently and it was fantastic. Might be a new house champs
Bump, at $60 bones

Edit: It's a 2012 "2012 vintage all the old vines that typically go into the Saint Vincent went into the Presidence and the Saint Vincent was not made, much like what they did in 2002". Does that mean that only those old vine grapes went into it? Or were those grapes added to what is normally Presidence?

I've gotta say that I was wholly unimpressed by the '12 Presidence. Maybe it was because I decided to pop it the day it was delivered but it was just mean, lean and overly acidic with no fruit to speak of. I've got two left and will hold them for several years before retrying. I'm hoping that bottle wasn't representative...

Pass for me on the Legras. Their website, while polished, doesn't say a thing about how they farm or their beliefs on the environment. Nor can I find anything on the web about it that easily. How can you not in this era talk about your belief/values as it pertains to the land? They seem more interested in talking about their Michelin connection. [scratch.gif]

No, but I have been thinking a lot about 2008 Cristal. For $219, it's made me pause but I appreciate the fact that the cuvee, and more broadly a good portion of the domaine's acreage, is farmed cleanly. While they are not completely converted from what I have read, they are making strides and it helps they own their acreage so they can control better what goes on within it. I too think Roderer is missing an opportunity, as consumers like me want to know their environmental position, and they just don't do a very good job of making their case via their website. They own a LOT of acreage and are taking care of it with a careful hand so why not make a big deal of that, of the leadership they are showing others?

According to Peter Liem's book, all of their acreage is biodynamically farmed.

Michael, perhaps Brad Baker knows but from what I have read, they have about 500 acres across their footprint and they're not all done with farming it this way, but they're in transition to get there. Cristal's plots, yes...these are all bio, and I believe they are in the Montagne, or some of them in Verzy.

Brad Baker or Peter Liem will know better but I did have a conversation about this with someone in their US marketing organization within the last 2 years at a tasting. My hazy recollection is everything was converted except for some of the vineyards that go into the NV. I think they are committed to complete the conversion but last time I heard it was not quite complete. It may well be today.

Jayson, i edited my post as it was around 500 to 600 acres they hold, not 250. If they are about done, that is fantastic. Much respect to them.

As an aside, just opened this. 100% Chard. Love this stuff. Sorry about the dumbass tilt photo. Marie-Courtin Eloquence, 2014 base.

I was incorrect; apparently almost all of their vineyards are organic but 1/3 are bio. 75 acres are plowed by horse. This is from peters book.

The last time I asked Jean-Baptiste Lecallion the question on vineyard ownership and farming was in April of 2018. At that point in time, they owned 240 hectares (slightly less than 600 acres) with 110 farmed biodynamically and 130 farmed organically although I am pretty sure they have a very, very small amount of non-biodynamic, non-organic land that they keep more as a control area to compare different techniques across the years. For grapes they purchase (around 75 hectares or so), the farming is a mix of biodynamic, organic, and regular farming. Purchased grapes only go into the NV blends.

All of the Cristal plots are now biodynamic with the 2007 Cristal Rose being their first 100% Biodynamic wine (the 2006 Brut Nature was almost 100%). Thre 2008 Cristal blanc is 50% biodynamic and will move to 100% biodynamic with future releases.

I don't think Roederer will ever move to 100% biodynamic as there is an interesting profile difference between biodynamic and organic wines at Roederer and both have their place in a blend and can vary from year to year. The most interesting thing currently going on at Roederer IMO is experimentation with different yeast strains be they commercial or wild. Again, it is amazing how much of a difference this can make and the different aromas/flavors you can get out of the same plot. In 2018 Roederer had a lot of success with wild yeasts and a lot of the wines I tasted where they used wild yeasts and let the wines ferment at their own pace clearly showed better precision, texture, and grip on the finish. Not saying it will be this way every year, but it is one more tool in the winemaking box that can be used.

I've been curious about that wine but decided to pass as we just came back from Champagne with just over a case, so I'm holding off on purchases for a little while... We'll see how long this lasts!

What vintage was on offer? (I don’t do Envoyer. That’s way too much temptation way too often.)

The ‘09 was ridiculously good. I imagine 2012 will be as well if that’s been released yet.

Anybody have some thoughts on the 2012 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage Brut offer today at $50 per?

I asked for some of the new Jacquesson 742 that was offered yesterday. Did anyone else bite on that?

FWIW I tasted jacquesson 742 when in Reims a month ago. Le wine bar (great spot) hosted the release party of sorts and I got to try it as well as 741 and 740. I was very impressed across the range. I bit for 3 bottles of the new 742!

Never had it but asked for two bottles. I usually like low dosage more than no dosage, but really couldn't find anything but glowing reviews.

I gave in and again (3rd time) asked to be put on ALL lists even though all I want is ALL champagne. I have the right boxes checked but the only offer I can be assured of is 06 Comte’s.

I can't deny that there are oddities with how the offers go out. I am on "all" lists and get some emails well after others here comment on an offer.

But if you haven't done so, I'd seriously recommend calling Greg and talking to him about why you don't seem to be getting all champagne offers when that is what you signed up for. Couldn't hurt and he's a nice fellow

I would also consider that email is certainly not a guaranteed delivery mechanism and does not purport to be. With the volume that Envoyer output at a given moment, I could easily see a few tier 1-2 email providers throwing out some temporary blocks every now and then. Also bear in mind spam folders etc etc.

I have been reassured several times that we have received the last offers of 06 Comtes.
