10 cases showed up today, oops
I called them up yesterday and told them not to ship mine due to fluctuating weather. When they do ship one day I'm afraid what will be waiting for me at my door. [oops.gif]

Pretty cool weather here, got some shipments in the upcoming weeks from various SoCal spots.

It's freezing in the Envoyer storage area.

I work right down the street, so I just stopped by and grabbed a Mousse Effusion Rose. Thanks for getting me into it-- it's a kickass Champagne at only $35. Told Greg how much I loved it from the last time we drank together. Surprisingly, he hasn't tried it yet, but he'll pop one this weekend.

What's the word on the Mousse Effusion Rose? I ordered an in stock bottle a few days ago primarily for the combination of price and intriguing grower.

  • NV Moussé Fils Champagne Brut Rose Effusion - France, Champagne (7/7/2018)
Disgorged 06/2016. 6 g/l with about 90% PM and 10% PN. Opened last night and kept a small amount under stopper for today. Pinkish with a touch of red, beautiful color. Lively acidity, leaning towards black cherry fruit. This is very zesty, with a bitter finishing note that gives the wine a lively energy. The finish takes on a grapefruit pith quality, that citrusy bitterness that I enjoy. This will wake up the palate and make it pay attention.
  • NV Moussé Fils Champagne Brut Rose Effusion - France, Champagne (5/16/2018)
This was our last wine to taste of the Mousse range. This is the blend of both soleras that they maintain, with a total composition of 92% PM and 8% PN. 6 g/l dosage and I forgot to jot down the disgorge date. Fresh, lively, red berry, creamy and bright in tone. If I can find this locally in time via my shop, I will buy it. Enjoyed this as a solid Rose.

Saw my first European offering of regular 08 dom; 155E, so not really that much cheaper.

Thanks, Daniel. I share them because some people want the perspective and they add it to their portfolio of feedback. Glad it helps. I am just one dude, with one palate and I know what I like and usually drink what that is. As an aside, I don't buy everything that Greg offers, skipping the grand marques and settling with the small, organic/bio, low dose producers. It's my space, it ain't everyone's.

Re-offer of the Mousse Saignee Rose Special Club today. This is excellent, clean, precise champagne that is 100% PM. if you have funds for champagne right now, this stuff is terrific. I re-upped for more today.

Another 2008 dom offer at 189; maybe I should’ve bought more from fwgs on bf. I have put away a lot though.

Agreed with FMIII, the Mousse SC Rosé is great stuff, all Meunier. The 13 was one of my Champagnes of the year 2018. Tried the 14 a couple weeks ago and it's also tasty but young, I'm giving it a bit of time to relax.

I also grabbed a couple more yesterday, best pricing I've seen.

Yong, to me, nothing wrong with drinking and enjoying this now. I love structure, acid and energy and conversely don't care for aged characteristics of wine, regardless of type. In sum, drink one and see what you think. I plan to open another soon, as I bought some more.

Yep, I think we might be looking at the new norm and 08 will settle at about 160-70 at the very best price. DP is long overdue a bump.

Michael, excuse me for being gauche; it no longer embarrasses me and I hope my question doesn't embarrass you. Are you making purchases like these for personal use? I find the disparity between your ballpark and mine absolutely stunning at times. I know you are very generous in also sharing your knowledge of wine at all price levels and I thank you for doing that. Just some of your purchases are a bit jaw-dropping "pour moi".

Yes it is. I drink a lot of champagne and in the best vintages you'll be well served putting away Dom/Cristal etc as they'll drink well for decades. Two cases of dom at $150 is $3600, which is certainly not cheap, but will offer nice drinking for decades. If you review some of these wine dinner posts, there's not infrequently people drinking 10-20 bottles of wine, many of which are worth more for one bottle than that total on today's open market, whether or not that's what they paid for them when they bought them. There is a big range of spending here which is what it is. I like getting information from people drinking bottles costing thousands and bottles costing $10-30.

We like our rose with a bit of age so I intentionally put a bunch aside. Young rose is acid driven, light and racy and pretty. Age adds depth and complexity, and my wife and I love a touch of oxidation in our bubbly rose, but everyone is different in their likes.

We intentionally buy so we can try at various stages. I have 4 bottles of the 14 Mousse and will probably drink 1 this year and spread the rest over the next 10 years depending on evolution.

That sold out same day. In the mood to buy bubbles, so I went elsewhere for a mixed 10 pack of Savart. I have never had his wines, but i'm looking forward to them as they sound like my style.

It was $54.99 for the '14 at Envoyer. I had to look it up after the offer today too. I almost bit on it still as I think this mostly blanc de noir dominated blend will be a good one for '15 and it was competitive in price. Alas, I have 105 bottles of champagne in the cellar.

Went for a bottle of the Jose Michel "Houdart." It sounds interesting, hopefully excellent, and potentially memorable.

Brian,
I found it interesting, although not as memorable as I had hoped. You won’t be disappointed buying a bottle, but you should try it before buying several. Here’s a thread Dennis A started.

I'm with Warren. We make jokes about saying a wine is "interesting" when asked about it. This one is 'interesting'. Definitely not bad, just interesting. I have another bottle that will get open when I'm in a geekier mood rather than in pursuit of pleasure.

SUPER tempted by the 07 Philliponnat Rose extra brut today.
Me too. I usually delete emails quickly, but I have kept this open to think about...

That's a great champagne, and the price is very nice, too. I bit immediately.

The offer today definitely made me ask myself if I have enough rose champagne.

Great prices today on the 2013 Chartogne-Taillet Beaux Sens and Les Orizeaux, and the 2012 Chemin de Reims. I paid $10 more per bottle last year. The question is, do I need more?

Cheers,
Warren

I asked for each of the three. The 2008 CT Millesime last year was excellent, as were the 2010 Couarres Chateau. I want to dig in deeper with CT and get more of their wines into my cellar. They farm clean and are low dosage, which i pursue mostly now as my Champagne buying strategy.

I knew you'd buy these! Almost as predictable as Vilmart. [rofl.gif]

Yea I bit on this offer, too. Really enjoyed the 2009 and 2010 C-Ts. And at this price, it’s close to a no brainer.

Checked out the small stock area at Envoyer today. Really great selection with some fantastic prices. Ended up leaving with a few '71 Barisone and '71 Brero Barolos (anyone know where these are from?), a five year old ex-cellar Vilmart Rubis, and a few 2016 Zind-Humbrecht Clos Windsbuhl Pinot Gris (originally sold out, but some customer didn't provide CC info).

They even had some awesome sake, everyday and high end Burg/Napa cabs (like Mazzini, Jadot, Mondavi Reserves, Clos du Val, Montelena), and some other fun growers ('06 Vilmart Coeur de Cuvée, Le Mesnil, Mousse, etc). Frank, thanks for hyping up the in-stock bottles. Fun trip!
With the recent move and holidays, getting caught up on the threads I normally read. I had the chance to visit Envoyer a few months ago as well and agree: cold storage, very small inventory. I only had time to pick up quickly since my wife was with me and I didn't even look at the stock closely so as not to get tempted. The NV Godme Rose will be the first wine purchase in over a month (if still available). Once things settle down, looking forward to dropping by more often since I'll only be 12 minutes away (just mapped it) [help.gif]

Nice! I started buying less and selling more after noticing slower recovery between workouts (gotta race to your lifting numbers!). Besides purchasing wines that elicit fond memories, I've reduced my impulse buying to about two bottles per month. I'll be more carefree when my girlfriend and I travel to wine county and find a wine we love, or when more '08 Champagnes become available (like Comtes and Dom), but other than that, it's all under control. [cheers.gif]

Cheers on the new house, bro!
