Ruinart is my upscale "everyone likes this" champagne, even as I wish they'd use less dosage. I love its precision, I dislike the sweetness.
Said this was the first year with a new vintner and the dosage was cut in half.
This was the first wine made completely by the current Chef de Caves Frédéric Panaïotis, but he has been in charge of disgorgement and releasing the wines since the 1998 Dom Ruinart vintage. Also, the 2007 Dom Ruinart BdB actually has a slightly higher dosage at 5 g/L than the 2006 Dom Ruinart BdB which was approximately 4.5 g/L. The Dom Ruinart BdB dosage data (on original releases) since 1985 is:

- 1985: 9 g/L
- 1986: 7 g/L
- 1988: 9 g/L
- 1990: 10-11 g/L
- 1993: 10 g/L
- 1996: 7 g/L
- 1998: 7 g/L
- 2002: 6-6.5 g/L
- 2004: 6-6.5 g/L
- 2006: 4.5 g/L
- 2007: 5 g/L

The dosage has fallen over time, but this isn't a recent trend and not something worth discussing with the 2007... especially since it is higher than the previous vintage.
Thanks for the info! [cheers.gif]

Do they always reply to a request if you get in on time and no reply if you miss it?

From my experience, I get a reply either way. In either instance, it is not immediate, sometimes a few weeks after the offer has gone out.

It is not unusual where demand outstrips what they have ordered for them to go back to their supplier to see if they can get more wine. It is my sense that this is when it takes time for them to get back to you.

The Georges Laval offer today has some pricey stuff in it. My god. $500 for the Longues Violes? Really? Hautes Chevres @ $179? The Les Garennes @ $50 looks like a bargain. [cry.gif]

Practical question - how does shipment work? I've only jumped on the Envoyer train recently. On my account it shows a couple of bottles available, and the rest still pending (confirmed orders). Does Envoyer propose shipping when it gets to a case? is it on you to schedule?

More of the latter in my experience. Terry will reach out if extended period of time goes by, but I tend to poke them occasionally to see what can ship during shipping season.

No need for me to poke them. Terry pokes me twice a year to get boatloads of wine out of their warehouse.

There’s a wall of Weinboxes in there with specific customers attached to each. I imagine they might reach out if/when those start to overflow

Frank,

I am with you. I like the wines that Vincent Laval makes, they are all very good. In fact, the quality is very similar across the board on all the Cumières wines. The Garennes may be a tiny bit behind the rest of the range, but not by much. You basically pay based on production/bottles released with Laval. You get different expressions from the more limited and more expensive bottles, but not necessarily a better wine. The NV Garennes and NV (though usually a pure vintage) Cumières are the only ones I consider for purchase as I don't get better quality moving up in the range. I guess that is the good and bad with the work Vincent does - everything is good regardless of production and price.

Brad, thanks for the comments on the Laval. As others have said around here, enjoying having your perspective on the region to put the fine touch on stuff that we'd never otherwise get to hear about.

As a PS, for the dorks on the Board here, I was at Envoyer today and there were a few bottles of the NV Vilmart Rose on the shelf for $49. Just saying in case any of you still wanted any. Call this a PSA. And as a closing note, should there be anyone wondering, I got no investment in the Envoyer business...I am like many of you just a customer. I get the advantage of having it 15 mins from my crib so getting by there is muy facil (and dangerous, tambien. Picked up some Vouette Textures today.)

Gerbais mags just offered. NICE.

L'Audace for me, for sure--tried that wine with Aurelien Gerbias when I was at the winery this past May. Space is an issue or I would buy the Grains Celles too. All of the stuff is farmed organically, made in a lower to no dose style, depending on the cuvee.

I too didn’t get that mailing, so I’m thankful for this heads up. I’m trying to add various champagne mags.

They have a inscrutable set of mailing lists. If you write them and as to be added to all, (a) they will be happy to do it and (b) it will cost you a fortune

2008 Philipponnat Cuvee 1522
I loved the 2002, so the '08 is a definite buy. Coincidentally, I just picked up some of the '06 1522 Rosé elsewhere this morning.

Cheers,

I'll pass. For not much more, you can get the NV Vilmart Grand Cellier (2013 base now). According to Scott, they'll release the offer soon.

I agree, the Grand Cellier is a big step above the Grande Reserve. However, the latter is being offered for $36, which is a steal.
The last time Envoyer offered the Grand Cellier, it was $50. That’s almost 40% more than the Grande Reserve. It all comes down to what you’re looking for.

I grabbed some (more). GC is a step up, but I'm on a stay-at-home-dad-with-three-kids-under-seven budget so I'm happy to pay the $36 for these and have both. :) $14 is 1/3 a box of diapers! [snort.gif]

I hate these bottle shapes, the ones used by the Tresors members. I'll stay with Mousse's version as I dig his wines but I have one Gimmonet left to kill off and then Mousse is what remains in my cellar. Just no place to store them because of the shape.

While on the subject of Mousse, did any of you lock in the Terre d'illite BdN a week or so ago? That is a lovely bottle of champagne, grown in what is I believe the only green clay in Champagne. I have drank a handful of them this year, including at the domaine, and the stuff us terrific. I asked for a few more to replace my inventory in the cellar.

I still have some from the previous offers though I think '12 was especially good for BdN.

I assume the Hebrart Special Club is a buy? Never had it before but previous vintages have nice tasting notes on CT.
It’s a no brainer buy.

I've never been impressed by Hebrart. I took a flyer on one of these Mousse. I'm not familiar with the producer but it sounded interesting. Loves me some Gimmonet. Robo owes me an '02 he never gave me from like 8 years ago. Any chance he still has it?

The funky Special Club bottles don't bug me as much since most of my cellar is in off sites. I like the uniqueness of them but I can see where people with set wine fridges for their storage would be annoyed.

The first of a few incoming Zind-Humbrecht offers: 2015 Hengst Gewurztraminer.

Looking forward to the Pinot Gris!

I did--but just three bottles. I think '14 is going to be about perfect.

Took a quick lunch and dropped by Envoyer today, as the November boat is unloaded. Saw a # of your names on the sides of boxes. Man, a lot of stuff came in, fo sho.

Picked up a nice haul of bubbly. Mousse, Falmet, Mouzon-Leroux......lots of cool things to cram into the cellar after work today.
My best wines of 2018:
2013 Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or
2015 Kutch Sonoma Coast PN
2017 Kutch Falstaff Sonoma Coast PN
2012 Marguet Père et Fils Champagne La Grande Ruelle Ambonnay
2012 Savart Expression Nature Ecueil
2010 Tercero Verbiage (Rouge) Santa Barbara County

Yep. I had a bottle of the Remy Leroy Nature a few weeks ago and it was excellent. $35, a steal. I asked for some Rose today too, Dennis.
