TN: 1920 Bodegas de la Real Divisa Rioja Reserva Marques de Legarda

Impressively lively bouquet. Red dust, dried tomato leaf, sour red cherry, more subtle hints of anise and dried oak plank.

Lovely mouthfeel, with acidity still present. Tannins seemed pretty much fully integrated and softened. More red fruit - cherry/cranberry - mixing with subtle dried herb, old tobacco, and some woodsy flavors. Sublime balance.

This seemed to drink about four decades younger than the label said, and showed some intriguing similarity to older Bordeaux (cab dominant) wines. It was absolutely beautiful.

fascinating. Thanks. Have sampled a few Riojas back to the late 60s, but this one sounds like a real joy. They are certainly built to last.

Agreed, it was a pleasure to be able to taste this wine. Really quite lovely up front with that cherry fruit. Settled in over a half hour or so, adding a bit of depth and showing some more spice character. Not sure how.long it would hold up open, but that wasn’t a problem last night! Happy birthday to Beau!
