Easiest way is to call and choose 1 for the administrative staff and they can check for you.
That seems so unCostcolike, I wouldn’t have even thought to ask. Thanks for letting me know.
The one caveat with calling in - just because the person at the front can 'see' it in their computer doesn't mean that it will

a) be out on the floor available for purchase - it might still be in their cold/locked area
b) or they have any idea where it actually is, especially if its an oddball small allocation

Generally I've been able to find a wine steward who can help with those problems, but sometimes they say 'come back tomorrow' when Vinny Rouge can help you.
True. The key takeaway IMO is verifying the price first and foremost. I know from firsthand experience the "joy" of trekking to a distant Costco b/c there were a decent qty of bottles, only to discover they were still ringing up at regular price...... [swearing.gif]

Has anyone tried the Kirkland Signature Series
Stags Leap Cab?

In prior years I would grab one and wait to try and then like it and it was gone.
This year I grabbed a bunch.

Curious what the group thinks.

Thanks
Tried this tonight and was pretty blown away. Does not taste like a typical, cheap-ass, over-oaked $20 cabs. It actually has a sense of place. Everyone (including myself) is always looking for that mythical cheap cabernet that actually provides pleasure....well....I dont think it gets much better than this. Note below and I'll post a separate one because I feel like peeps would what to know about this wine.

This $20 Kirkland cab has no business being this good.  I honestly wasnt expecting much but am pretty damned impressed.  Dark fuschia in color, with cassis, and powdery red fruits.  On the palate, this honestly screams Rutherford to me.  Deep and powerful but light on its feet, with cherries, black fruits, minerality....and yes....a really nice 'dusty' note (honestly).  Very impressive wine and very reflective of the region.  I'd put this up against $75 cabs and fully expect it to steal the show.  My new go-to weekday cab.

Ended up picking up a bottle of this, some Jadot Pouilly-Fusse 16 $23, and a Torbreck Woodcutters shiraz 2017 $17 today.

Bought a bottle of 2005 Muriel Grand Reserva based on a recommendation from my local "Wine Guy" last weekend. Opened it and was uninspiring at best, put the cork back in and tried again the next night... Even worse.

Waltham MA Costco email 9/18/18:

"In the very near future, we are receiving a very small supply of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2015. For a bottle, we are charging a very great price of $579.99. We are also receiving a small quantity of Chateau Margaux for $529.99. These are going to go fast, so I am just letting you know. If you cannot get a hold of one of these in time, please feel free to ask for any specific type of wine, and I will do my best to get you some.

Sincerely,

I remember 10 years ago reading Waltham was their 2nd highest volume location in the US (back when MA limited license holders to only 3 locations in the state). They used to get some pretty good stuff in and send out regular emails to people on this email list. We used to line up out front waiting for the doors to open for the Bordeaux release. That was several managers ago. Not so much anymore, just 1 or 2 emails per year and not for anything particularly interesting. But that Margaux price is impressive if that isn't a typo.

Next time you are at your local Costco, ask if they have any sort of wine email list.

Ours in DE has the Mouton Rothschild for like 534.
They also have a Pontet-canet 2015 for 104.99

I was tempted to get one of the Pontet.
The ratings were off the chart.
Jeff liked it a lot.

A follow up to my post at the Kirkland stags leap district Cabernet thread.
Just saw that Wine Spec listed the Kirkland Alexander Valley Cabernet as a best value with a picture of the label.
88 points
10$
9.89 actually.
I grabbed a bunch and should have gotten more.
I like it.

Sherman Oaks Costco had 2015 Rauzan Segla at $69.99. Cleaned out the last 7 bottles there. Wonder if they've got it anywhere else?

Thanks Andrew

I still have a 15 Gigondas from last year.
It was tasty.
I guess I should grab a few of the 16 as, those two (15 & 16) were stellar Rhone vintages.
The Kirkland CDP was lowered to 17.99 from 19.99
I have a few of those as well.

Gotta love Costco.

The W. Plano, Dallas and Frisco Costco locations have 2015 Prieure-Lichine for $34.99 (as well as more of the 2015 Giscours for $48.99). Both of these are very good deals....

#471 had these today

2010 Kirwan [Margaux] $60
2014 Clos du Val estate CS [Napa] $40
2014 Vall Llach 'Embruix' [Priorat] $20
2015 Fontodi [Chianti Classico] $34

Also they had one mag of 2015 Felsina Fontallaro for $100, and it seemed misplaced. All the specialty holiday spirits (Johnny Walker Blue, Chinese Dragon shaped bottles of Remy XO, etc.) have started showing up too.

I passed on the dry wines. Sadly the Prieure Lichines mentioned upthread never made it to ours.

Unfortunately, I got rung up twice for a single liqueur bottle, which I only discovered when I got home. Fixing that can't be done over the phone, so I'll have to go back, and after 2+ hours there today between getting gas, new tires, and my SO's crazy shopping list, I've had my fill of the weekend insanity there.

A month ago ago I bought the Kirkland Signature Champagne and Roederer Anderson Valley sparkling wine, both around $20. I found the Kirkland too sweet, but really liked the Roederer.

Went to grab more Roederer yesterday (thinking for some reason that they keep this in stock year round), but alas, gone.

Does anyone have a go-to sparkler from Costco?

Ordinary 2008 release isn't until next year. The currently available bottles are a "legacy edition" packaging and the normal version is very early next year, from what I've read. Same juice either way.

Interesting, I thought Roederer was always available? Pretty sure it is in AZ (definitely seems like it). Really hard to beat for the price.

Mumm napa Rose my wife got from Costco wasnt bad the other day. Slightly towards the sweeter side but not too much so. Nice value and definite crowd pleaser.

My wife and her girlfriends drink quite a bit of NV Sparklers. The Kirkland used to be her go-to but now it is the Scharffenberger which is a few bucks less. We don't normally have the Roederer at our Costco.

Pretty much every Costco I go into has the Roederer, usually for the $17-18 levels. They make 80k cases, and its mass market distributed, so it might have just been a situation of Costco being momentarily out of stock on the floor. TW often carries it too, at the same price.

Sharschfenberger (sp?) is good too, and IIRC is made by the same team.

That is our house go to sparkly, although tonight I think the SO has pulled a Duval Leroy.

Let me first say that I love Costco. I've been shopping there for 15 years, first in PA, now in MD. Drove up to Philly yesterday and stopped in at the Costco in Delaware off I95. Major disappointment.

Pretty weak selection. No tempranillo, only 1 burgundy (Jadot not even village level) and no bordeaux. They had some good prices on a few daily drinkers but not much to sing about. The best deal I saw was veuve clicquot brut for $47 and no tax because it's Delaware. However, the line was 30 people deep with one cashier as they have to sell alcohol in a small attached building. Parking lot is brutal too.

Oh well, they can't be great everywhere.

The DE location has been a major disappointment the two or three times I have been there.

Roederer Brut is the one.

They always have it so they must have temporarily run out.

This time of year they being in a lot more bubbly choices for the holidays.

anyone see 2008 Dom Perignon at Costco yet?
Ordinary 2008 release isn't until next year. The currently available bottles are a "legacy edition" packaging and the normal version is very early next year, from what I've read. Same juice either way.
of course possible that Costco carries the legacy edition

That is our house go to sparkly, although tonight I think the SO has pulled a Duval Leroy.

The 96 Duval Leroy we had at Bill's was really good. I like their style.

Was in Costco on Friday and they have a big champagne and sparkling wine display.

Dom Perignon or a set with glasses for hundreds of dollars.

Many others including Roederer Brut for $19 and Gloria Ferrar Brut for around $17.

But my favorite is their 2014 Domaine Carneros Brut for $21.99 - Better than the Roederer Brut for $3 more. Small bubbles and a light yeasty flavor will make you think it's french instead of CA. Delicious.

Location #771 in Citrus Heights

2014 Clos du Val estate CS [Napa] $34 net after instant rebate

Prices on this have gone up a bit in the last few years, so maybe its moving sluggishly

My supermarket still carries it for $40ish

Quite liked the 2013 and laid down a few

A few more 15's are finally crawling into MN. Calon Segur, Clerc Milon, Gloria, plus a couple of the better second labels.

I would disagree. Domaine Carneros tastes like what it is-- a tourist wine that's clearly a domestic effort.

Can you recommend a champagne for $22 that's better?
