Alcohol returns not allowed in CA, FYI.
Bummer man! Not the case here in AZ. I've seen peeps in the return line with literally cart fulls of booze. Handles of vodka, rum, etc. No doubt left overs from a party, and as far as I could tell, Costco took em all back no questions asked.

Haven't had to try it with wine but I'm sure its the scenario. Gotta love Costco (I guess slightly less if you live in CA)
From personal experience, let's just say that YMMV regarding the alcohol return policy at Costcos in CA......... [whistle.gif]

I've been refused returns on handles before, but I am pretty sure I've returned corked wine at least once (although it's been a while).

Stopped by the SLO Costco this afternoon and was surprised to see a few new Bordeaux options - we don't often get these:
2015 Marquis de Terme $42.99
2015 Siran $27.79
2015 Lilian Ladouys $19.99
2015 d'Arsac Margaux $19.89
2016 Clos des Lunes Lune d'Argent $14.99 (IIRC)

Also, 2013 Cent'anni Sangiovese Riserva for $19.99...a Doug Margerum wine, I think.

I really enjoyed the '14 Lilian Ladouys from Costco for $18, so if I see the '15 at mine for $20 I'll probably grab 6.

Mark, just saw this. I'm not sure if the others have it, but I bought the '14 at the West County location in February and grabbed a few more in March. Sometimes wines are slower to arrive in the STL stores than the West Coast stores based on what people discuss here. They may still have the '14 there. I haven't been in a couple of months.

The one in Irvine on Technology/Alton has 2015 Clos du Marquis for $50 and 2015 Flaccianello for $98, both well below the WSPro lowest price.

Costco in Delaware.

Haut Bages Liberal 2015 for 38.99 as well.

Great story on the Capbern.
They have dramatically improved the wine.

Yes, Capbern (previously Capbern Gasqueton) have had a superb turn around from about 2009 onwards. At $20 a bottle, that's a great buy, although I think they didn't really make the most out of 2015 - the critics were consistently tepid about it. Bit of a shame as this is a Chateau I would have expected to really over deliver in a vintage like that. Still, serious quality Bordeaux for $20 a bottle is not all that common I guess.

It really is quite nice Julian.
I had some of the Andron Blanquet from last bottle.
St Estephe
2010 even
I liked this better.
And you're right....for 20$ a bottle it's a steal.
The gang at K & L wines seem to like it.
Best 20$ Bordeaux I have had.

Grabbed a couple of the 2015 Lilian Ladouys while in over the weekend... I also picked up 2x 2011 Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva at $12 (temporary markdown for the next ~3 weeks). Based on bottle #1, this may be nothing spectacular, but it's a respectable Old-world Rioja at a more-than-decent price...which is fine by me.

Has anyone tried the Kirkland Signature Series
Stags Leap Cab?

In prior years I would grab one and wait to try and then like it and it was gone.
This year I grabbed a bunch.

Curious what the group thinks.

Thanks
Tried this tonight and was pretty blown away. Does not taste like a typical, cheap-ass, over-oaked $20 cabs. It actually has a sense of place. Everyone (including myself) is always looking for that mythical cheap cabernet that actually provides pleasure....well....I dont think it gets much better than this. Note below and I'll post a separate one because I feel like peeps would what to know about this wine.

This $20 Kirkland cab has no business being this good.  I honestly wasnt expecting much but am pretty damned impressed.  Dark fuschia in color, with cassis, and powdery red fruits.  On the palate, this honestly screams Rutherford to me.  Deep and powerful but light on its feet, with cherries, black fruits, minerality....and yes....a really nice 'dusty' note (honestly).  Very impressive wine and very reflective of the region.  I'd put this up against $75 cabs and fully expect it to steal the show.  My new go-to weekday cab.

Now you have me curious, Rich. My Costco in NJ doesn't carry wine, but the one near me in Florida does, but the selection isn't good. However, they do seem to get the Kirkland wines in abundance and I usually avoid those only because I don't know which ones are worth taking a shot on. Next time, if I see this one, I am going to grab it. I did buy the Kirkland Rioja ($6.99 I think) last spring and I have to admit that I liked it and couldn't believe the value.

In with you Sherri! I usually pass up the Kirkland bottles as well but was really glad I tried this. Much, much better than I expected.

*note that this was their 'signature' line....so more like a 'Kirkland reserve' probably?? Again, only $20, but more expensive than the usual Kirkland bottles I think.

Thanks. There is a *little* at Santa Rosa and Sacramento/Exhibition.

At #471 the OWC was buried in between the stacks, and I had the steward type pull it for me and pluck out a bottle. No signage or pricing for it, but it was $19.97.

Thanks for the heads up - that's cheaper than K&L is selling the 2014 deuxieme from this estate!

(of course my attempt at a quick flyby bargain grab, turned into a $200+ expense once the SO sent me her shopping list....)

Not a screaming deal but 2015 Ferriere [Margaux] is $37 there too.

I've more or less given up on the Costco near me (Bloomingdale in the Chicago area). Haven't seen anything of note in a few years now...unless I'm just not going enough... Or they've given up because there are so many Binny's stores in the Chicago area.
It's hit and miss but the Lake Zurich IL Costco has had some interesting stuff over the years. I picked up 2013 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Cask 23 for $159. Cheapest price for a Cask 23 I saw anywhere at that time was over $200. They seem to have some real steals around Thanksgiving.

This guy does a nice job of talking about and rating the wines that Costco gets.

The DE Costco did get some more Capbern in.
Might be gone.
I stop by often as stuff flies in and out.

Glad to hear you got that dusty thing from the Kirkland Stags Leap cab.

I have a confession.
I got 3 of those El Nido Jumilla's
That 49.99 price was a booboo by the receiving guy.
They found their mistake.
Current price

94.99

I almost feel guilty for getting for nearly 1/2 half off.

Ugh, stopped by local store in STL for the first time in awhile, and selection was rough, maybe between shipments or something. Bought some cheap everyday wines to try, Malecosse 2015 for $10, Thanisch Feinherb for $11. Nothing exciting though.

2012 Lagier-Meredith Syrah for $19.97 [wow.gif] Where? - that is a contender for deal of the year!
Costco here in the SF Bay Area. Sharing the bounty with a couple of WB'ers next time I see them at an offline.

In case anyone wants to check the SKU to determine availability at Costcos in their region........

Which location was that? The Almaden San Jose location still has it for $35.99 (which is still a pretty good deal)
Livermore.

Not every Costco will choose to mark down an item that another Costco may have. I've learned to verify what another Costco has it priced at before heading over.

It's not easy being drunk all the time. Everyone would be doing it if it were easy.

How do you verify a price at Costco before going there?

Ask someone in the front, past checkout to check inventory for you. The Costco's near me, I ask the person who gives out movie tickets/gift cards/laptops.

Easiest way is to call and choose 1 for the administrative staff and they can check for you.

Just called Livermore, and they are sold out. Thanks for the heads up though.

That seems so unCostcolike, I wouldn’t have even thought to ask. Thanks for letting me know.

I was down in Carmel over the weekend and stopped in Seaside which had 15 bottles of L-M Syrah but no go on a price reduction/match with other stores. They checked everywhere from there up to North Bay and no go; everyone still at $35.99.

The 15 Bordeaux keeps coming: Mtn View Ch Carbonnieux Blanc $29.99 and they were allocated a measely 6 bottles of Léoville Las Cases for $179.99

The one caveat with calling in - just because the person at the front can 'see' it in their computer doesn't mean that it will

a) be out on the floor available for purchase - it might still be in their cold/locked area
b) or they have any idea where it actually is, especially if its an oddball small allocation

Generally I've been able to find a wine steward who can help with those problems, but sometimes they say 'come back tomorrow' when Vinny Rouge can help you.
