2017 Hanzell Sebella Chard rang up 17.99 for me last week at Vista CA. Went back for a reload and paid 19.99. Not bad.

Nothing earth shattering in Seattle today.

Casanova di Neri Brunello Tenuta Nova 2014
Canalicchio Rosso di Montalcino 2017
Mouton Rothschild 2015

Bastide Miraflors was out of stock, it had been $11.89.
Kris, thanks for posting. Do you recall what the price was on the Mouton?

$549.99, I believe.

Not at Costco, but at Grocery Outlet -- Consejo De La Alta Rioja Reserva 2010 for $9.99 is a pretty killer deal. Found in the Oakland, CA store.

Anyone know what states you can purchase wine at Costco without a membership?

Costco is about 45 minutes away and I pass three Sam’s Clubs on the way. So kept my Sam’s membership when they opened. There are zero wine deals there but haven’t checked out to see if my local Costco has the deal you guys find at your stores.

You can at the ones in California. Sometimes they make you take an escort and pay debit, but other times they don't seem to care.

Massachusetts, although MA limits the number of liquor store licenses one entity can own (was 3, now higher), so some Costco liquor stores used to be actually owned/run by outside companies. Not sure if any of the current stores still fall into that category.

Oklahoma’s Costco was opened with no alcohol and an attached separate owned liquor, wine, beer store. Effective Oct 1, Costco can carry wine and strong beer. The adjacent store now only carries liquor I believe.

I found a few lists only but they were all a few years old. Will just have to call the store. Novel idea...

You should ask if you can buy alcohol using a Costco gift card. The gift card is the legit way to shop at a Costco without a membership.

My understanding is that all Costcos allow purchase of prescription medications and alcoholic beverages without a membership.

As to the OK Costco, that store is owned/operated by Western Beverages and they lease the space from Costco. Their signage is that same to keep with continuity, but they are separate entities. Last time I was in the Tulsa store, they had plenty of wine, albeit not competitively priced like down here in TX.

The retail package store (what liquor/wine/beer stores are technically called in Oklahoma) next to Costco is owned by Western Beverages or Costco allows Western Beverages to run their wine & beer located within the store? If you’re saying the retail package store I’m pretty that isn’t correct. An out of state corporation (or any corporation, has to be a partnership or sole proprietorship) can’t hold a retail package store license in the state of Oklahoma. Which, after review of their Facebook page it doesn’t necessarily matter because the store (branded Up Spirits) announced they are closing permanently after Easter.

The few folks I know that are Costco members have said the selection if pretty good, but not great. We tend to buy smaller producers and shop at the local wine shops, but some of these great QPR deals you guys post gets me curious.

Either way, I’ll call Costco once they open and confirm what I need to shop there.

2009's are still languishing on the shelves here in South Texas for the same price. I check every time I go in...and it's still 2009. I don't think they sell much in the way of higher priced wines here. I ended up ordering some online.

why is it priced differently in different stores if Costco does a 15% bump on their wines—that’s what I heard.

More often than not, the lower prices for the same items at different Costcos is attributable to the presence of a Total Wine location nearby. This is especially noticeable with the higher profile “usual suspects” like Dom Perignon, NV Veuve Clicquot and name brand liquor.

Costco has a max markup of 13.9% on BevAlc.

They can't go higher, Total Wine will price lower to stay competitive or use items as a loss leader.

#471 over the wknd

15 Rodano [Chianti] $15
14 BV 'Napa' CS $17
14 Clos du Val CS [Napa] $30
13 la Colombina Brunello $34

I've seen a lot of that Clos du Val at various warehouses for months.

My Costco seems thinner on wine currently than usual.

CdV lost many buyers when they changed things a few years back and tried to reach for the $50 threshold. I would see the same bottles sit on the local TW shelf collecting dust for months at a time at $49.99.

Great prices on all of these. I quit buying Beaucastel years ago because of the price, but based on the quality of the 2016 vintage in S. Rhone and this pricing, I would have likely picked up 3-6 bottles.

Was in Costco late today. The Dom is still 2009, no sign of 2008 and the 2008 Cristal was $235. Just a few months ago, the Cristal was $219, and now it is $235. Going up.
My WOTY candidates for 2019:
2014 Marie Courtin Eloquence Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut
2017 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Occidental Ridge SC PN
2017 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Platt SC PN
2017 Kutch Pinot Noir SC PN
2009 Roederer Cristal Brut

My best wines of 2018:
2017 Kutch Falstaff Sonoma Coast PN
2012 Marguet La Grande Ruelle Ambonnay

Kindness matters.

The Mountain View Costco shares a wall with Total Wine. Anything that Total sells, Costco undercuts them even if only by 50 cents.

That’s a very good price on both the Musar and Paitin. Don’t see Paitin discussed much but I really enjoy their wines. Selection at the St. Louis stores is not great, even if not as bad as what some describe, but I doubt I’ll see either of those wines here.

Yes perhaps CdV should have phased in the reset of price points, and made more mention of estate grapes etc. 2013 was quite good, and I put a few away. That seems like a fair price for the 14 though.

15 Ch. St Jean 'Belle Terre' Chardonnay $13.50
15/16 Stags Leap Napa Chardonnay $16

And something which seems a little different...

15 les Evigneaux [Rasteau] $13

The last one had its 89-91 WA rating printed on its back label. Presumably it only got imported because of that.
I had a bottle of that 2015 les Evigneaux [Rasteau] last week. It's a big 15% abv, slick wine that leads off hot and grapey on day 1. After some air on day 2 it smooths out a little with bitter roast coffee flavors. On day 3 its still there but fades a little. It's certainly functional, and a value, but it felt a bit modern/polished - not like the old chewy Rasteaus I remember from Trapadis and producers like that. I'd give it a B and would not repurchase.

Yes perhaps CdV should have phased in the reset of price points, and made more mention of estate grapes etc. 2013 was quite good, and I put a few away. That seems like a fair price for the 14 though.
I've always enjoyed fruit from Stags Leap region, and I have a few 13's and 14's that I was able to secure in the mid 30's range. It just isn't going to happen at $49.

I saw the Walls Stanley Groovy at the Aurora Village Costco a couple of weeks ago. It was nice but nothing special.

Are most of you all seeing 2009 Dom before 2008? I believe that is how Dom is releasing the bottles.

I think C is just joking with you.

Last year was the first time in Dom Pérignon’s history that a vintage was released out of sequence – the 2009 preceding this 2008. A key reason for this was that it was felt the 2008 needed more time. The product of a widely-acclaimed vintage, Dom Pérignon 2008 will be released as a special ‘Legacy Edition’ in late 2018, featuring the names of both chef de caves. The normal label will be released in early 2019.
