A few more 15's are finally crawling into MN. Calon Segur, Clerc Milon, Gloria, plus a couple of the better second labels.
Ron, how much was the Calon Segur?
It's C(raig)

Can you recommend a champagne for $22 that's better?
Roederer Estate Brut. But why buy cheap sparkling wine? Nice grower Champagne can be had for just a little more.

But my favorite is their 2014 Domaine Carneros Brut for $21.99 - Better than the Roederer Brut for $3 more. Small bubbles and a light yeasty flavor will make you think it's french instead of CA. Delicious.[/img]
I would disagree. Domaine Carneros tastes like what it is-- a tourist wine that's clearly a domestic effort.

If you're lucky to have a Costco that stocks more than the "usual suspects" of Moët and Veuve, there are champagnes at Costco a few times a year that are priced at $20 that are much better than the Domaine Carneros. They fly off the shelves at that pricepoint, though.

That's what I was comparing it to. Roederer Estate is our house bubbly and the Carneros is better, IMO.

I haven't found a champagne I like as much for less than $40.

Personally I'd much rather have a $30 Champagne and sometimes deals can be had at less, i.e. Moutard brut or Rose around $25. Great Loire and Jura options at that price too. At about $20 it is much tougher though. My Costco has the current release of Nicolas Feuillatte for $20. I don't remember particularly enjoying that Champagne, but it would be interesting to compare it to the CA offerings at the same price so I may grab a couple next time I'm there to compare if they still have it.

Our Costco in Alaska does not have many of the bubbly selections that others enjoy but they did have the 2011 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut yesterday. I picked up a few at 38.99 to give it a try.

Stopped by #471 again today to install Bridgestone's on the wife's truck.

While I waited I noticed some modest BDX in stock

2011 du Glana [St Julien] $23
2015 Clos des Lunes blanc $15
2014 Bolaire [Bordeaux] $11
2016 Dom. La Roche blanc [Pessac Leognan] $9

They've also price chopped their Clos du Val down to $34 too, like the #771 store has.

I stopped by the DC costco off rte 50 for a little recon. They had Roederer Estate Brut for $26. I did not see the L'Ermitage. They had a couple deals on cabs including the 2013 Beringer Knights Valley Reserve for $47, about 11 below wine-searcher (WS) average. They also had 2013 Alain Jaume & Fils Domaine Grand Veneur CdP Le miocine about $12 under WS average. Same for the 2013 Banfi Brunello.

I'll go back....

Once in a while you get a little treat.
Our DE Costco got in some 2015 Bordeaux from the Cadillac Cotes De Bordeaux region.

Chateau Baracan

http://www.vignobles-gonfrier.fr/en/our ... racan.html

So my buddy grabs one and tries it 2 nights ago.
Texts me and says it's not bad.
So I grab a couple last night and tried one.

Really nice.

Now here's the killer.
The wine is $7.49 a bottle at Costo.

And it's nice!

I decided to do a little research and found out this Chateau has been around for a while and the vine average age is 20 years.
Good location with Clayey-gravelly slopes very near the Garonne river.

I grabbed a couple cases today. My buddy is out of town so I grabbed one for him.
A whopping $90 a case.
Might have to get another.
This won't last long.

Bought a bottle of the Kirkland-branded 10 Tawny Port to cook with. Only needed about half the bottle for cooking. Drank the other half. I thought it quite good, and a steal at $17. Label says Fonseca is responsible for the juice.

We just arrived in FL from MA for the winter months and visited the local Costco for supplies. While there, I picked up some wines to try out for "any day" drinkers while we are down here.

2016 Substance CS (12.99)
2017 A to Z Pinot Gris (12.99)
2017 A to Z Riesling (11.99)
2014 Lions de Suduiraut(Half 11.89)

The Lions de Suduiraut was a surprise to me. Has anyone tried this?

Yes, I bought a 6 pack of it because we had it at a dinner. It's a good vintage for Sauternes from a good producer. The wine is fantastic at any price IMO.

Costco Henderson (NV) has Billecart-Salmon Brut Rose for $64, and if I recall, that same 2014 Lions de Suduirau listed above, in 750ml, for $12, which was a bit of a shock to me. Not a Sauternes drinker, more into Spanish and Italian sweets, but I'll probably grab a six pack.

They also had one Zind-Humbrecht Riesling listed as German wine, so there's that.

I know I have comment this before but in the Minneapolis Market Costco never has the best prices. We have half a dozen shops who have better selection and prices on many wines. My brother who lives in Seattle pays more for Washington Wines under $20 than we do in Minneapolis. I can't remember the last big purchase from Costco I have made.
