2014 Kinero, Chard, Talley Vineyard

I’m not that much of a chard fan, but once in a while a superb example presents itself at a reasonable price.
This wine is a cloudy pale straw color. Aromas of pears, Meyer lemons, and gardenias. Flavors on the palate are restrained but still present a lively and exciting wine followed by a generous after taste. It’s nice to find a chard that finds a middle ground, like Rhys, but at $35. Clocks in at a medium alcohol level of 13.6%.
Btw Kinero has several other whites and an elegant Grenache. The red comes from Bassetti Ranch which is a cool spot west of Paso.
All the wines are highly recommended and present a nice middle ground of full flavor without being rich or over done in any way.

A quick note that Bassetti Vineyard is not actually in any of the Paso AVAs, but is actually quite a ways farther west, pretty close to the ocean near Cambria. If you’ve ever been out to the vineyard, you know it’s remarkable that they can ripen Grenache in a spot that cool. And for those who don’t know, it’s worth mentioning that Kinero is the label of Denner winemaker Anthony Yount.

Yep, Bassetti is designated as being “Central Coast” not Paso. ESJ used to make wines from this vineyard iirc.

Steve Edmunds did indeed make a Bassetti Vineyard Syrah two or three times in the early '00s. Opened a bottle of the 2001 at a dinner with friends in Paso for Hospice du Rhône a week ago and it’s drinking really well.

By the way, Kinero is the winery owned by Denner winemaker Anthony Yount, who I consider a bright light and innovator among young winemakers in California.

You’ve got to love Kinero’s website URL: www.notplonk.com

Love the wines! Anthony Yount is one of the most talented hard working winemakers in Paso Robles…

Sipping the '13 Chard. Full of pears, limes, and green apples. $19 from K&L!!!

Wow - $19?!? Wonder what’s going on . . . Great find!

Larry, The people in Hollywood were very puzzled. They knew the wine and thought it was a great deal. Apparently the wines are not selling up North which is where the wines were sold.
