SQN Syrah question: 2010 Five Shooter or 2011 Dark Blossom

#1 Post by Tom Chen » February 5th, 2016, 9:08 am

I am trying to decide which bottle to open next week.

Would love to get any thoughts on:

1) What is drinking better now;
2) What will benefit more from some additional bottle age;
3) Amount and type of decant.

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Had both in 2015 and to me the Dark Blossom was drinking better. I think the Five Shooter will benefit more from additional age.

I normally decant SQNs for a couple of hours, and would do so with either of these.

I think Dark Blossom is the answer to both of your first 2 questions.

I would decant at least 3 hrs

Excellent question. I do not know the answer, but the more SQN threads the better. We need to clean up the first page of threads and push those wimpy wine threads to where they belong. [cheers.gif]

The Dark Blossom is extremely strongly marked by its barrel regime right now, the Five Shooter less so—for what that's worth.

Regardless, I suggest you open, sample to verify its sound, leave on counter from 8am til dinner and consume.
